"Atheism" is an Irrational Religion

Tell me what you believe, and why.

Haha, what an absurd demand. I'll let you know when the book is published, don't worry.

Such a sweeping demand from someone who refuses to answer very simple questions posed to him (they're even numbered, for your convenience!) is pretty ironic.

Do you want me to make a bunch of assertions so that you can try to challenge them - in order to to shift the focus away from the fact that you either cannot or will not defend your own statements?

Here's what I believe: you're ridiculous. I welcome you to show that my belief is unfounded.

"And Jesus said unto his diciples: 'You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free'."

I guess you could try make that massive leap of 'faith' in an attempt to justify that this has anything to do with the meaning of this thread.

Or maybe it does, but I don't see it.

Natural law takes neither side. The whole discussion is irrelevant.

Faith is not about belief. Doubt is the opposite of belief. But in the Christian sense I would say that Faith is the opposite of sin, not doubt.

I have always asked Christians: "Faith in what? Jesus? God? Heaven?" I have never been shown in the Bible what exactly Christians are to put faith in. The Christian view of faith is found at Hebrews 11:1, where it says: "Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, for the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld."

Faith, Hope, Wanting, Wishing, Dreaming.....

"Atheists" cannot know for sure there is no God, so all they can do is believe there is no God. Since "atheists" cannot prove the nonexistence of something, they have to believe in something which has no evidence to back it up. Therefore, "atheism" is a religion based on a belief which has no evidence for it to be true, and for that reason, it is the most irrational of all belief systems in history. :)

You know Theo, I think you are onto something, let us do a little experiment, by inserting a minor substitution.

Here we go:

'Atheists" cannot know for sure there is no "red lollipop inside a green banana spinning around Venus while playing Britney Spears Videos on the iPod", so all they can do is believe there is no ""red lollipop inside a green banana spinning around Venus while playing Britney Spears Videos on the iPod". Since "atheists" cannot prove the nonexistence of something, they have to believe in something which has no evidence to back it up. Therefore, "atheism" is a religion based on a belief which has no evidence for it to be true, and for that reason, it is the most irrational of all belief systems in history. :)'

You are onto something Theo.

By the way, I congratulate you on the strength of your bond with your imaginary friend.

You said you didnt claim to be a christian.

Im just asking what it is you believe. You a Hindu? Do you believe in Thor? How is this an absurd demand?

I know this wasn't directed at me but, I believe we are all a part of the same dam thing, and the concept of individuality is a temporary state of existence, within. We are existence exploring and expanding itself. Individuality is obviously very important, as it is our nature, but it is our temporary nature.

I essentially believe in my signature. What group are you going to throw me in?

thats only because you are afraid of criticism and argument. You like to dance around issues, fading in and out between positions.

Its not even that hard of a question. Do you believe claim x is true? Its a simple yes or no answer.

That's funny. One of the leading atheists who wrote the book the God Delusion says the answer can be "I don't know?"

Sure. But thats not the same as agnosticism.

This guy wont even give me an "i dont know". He refuses to answer any questions on what his position is. He only attacks my position, and doesnt offer one of his own, making it impossible for anyone to offer any criticism.

And Dawkins isnt the fucking atheist pope. I dont care what he thinks.

Well gee, I "believe" I'm typing on a computer right now in a vain attempt to communicate with a potential moron. Does that give you an idea of how absurd your demand was?

Or, are you asking what my religious views are? My view of religion is that it is a set of beliefs that a bunch of people tend to get pretty emotional about, and that there are a lot of different varieties.

Now how about you answer my numbered questions from earlier.

You refuse to answer my questions, which I posed first to you! You're the one going about making statements about what I believe which are completely laughable, along with statements about 'truth,' 'logic,' 'rationality,' etc, and apparently don't even know what they mean.

Yea, it's hard to criticize someone who doesn't attempt to make broad affirmative statements on things he doesn't know about - which, conversely, is why is it fairly easy to criticize you.

You appeared to be a theist of some sort. You now say you are not. Why is it such an absurd an monumental task for you to tell me what you believe?

Given the surrounding context of the discussion. . .

WHAT THE FUCK ELSE WOULD I BE ASKING?

Try reading your own words. Seriously. Go back and read what you wrote. You did not mention anything about religion. Considering the fact that my questions to you (which you have not responded to) were about epistemology, it's not immediately clear what the hell you were asking me to tell you.

Don't blame me for the fact that you didn't actually ask what you meant to ask. Try to write more clearly.

About what? Ask me a specific fucking question for christ's sake.

You are correct - I am not a theist. The fact that I "appeared" to be a theist to you is just more evidence that you don't know what you're talking about.

There were a lot of people talking. I mistakenly assumed you were one of them.

Am I to assume you are an atheist?
