At least 4,900 expected for UCLA event (updated w/ amazing pics and video inside!)

Great speech. Glad he mentioned hemp... that whole issue is a microcosm of everything that is wrong with a corrupt federal government and legalizing it is a great example of a free market solution to everything from the environment to small business.

Ron Paul Draws Remarkable 6,000-plus Voters to His UCLA Town Hall Meeting

Capacity crowd at Los Angeles Tennis Center greets Dr. Paul while hundreds more turned away

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul continued his pattern of attracting thousands of attendees to his town hall meetings, this time drawing 6,000-plus voters to his UCLA campus event.

Tonight’s UCLA town hall meeting took place at 8:30 p.m. PST at the Los Angeles Tennis Center (LATC)’s Straus Stadium, located at 420 Charles E. Young Drive West, Los Angeles, CA 90095. Dr. Paul spoke to the UCLA and general community about the need for constitutionally-limited government, the bonds that tie economic and civil liberties, and elements of his ‘Plan to Restore America,’ an economic blueprint that cuts Washington spending, reduces debt, and curtails the rapid growth of the federal government.

Event organizers noted that in addition to the capacity crowd of more than 5,800 seated guests, more than 300 attendees were denied entrance due to the local fire marshal’s concern for overcrowding. Just last night, the 12-term Congressman from Texas broke his earlier record attracting more than 6,200 voters to a similar town hall meeting held at Cal State – Chico.

Coldplay concert there last year was 6820 with floor seating...

I doubt they seated behind the grandstand and they did seat behind Ron. In one of those clips it shows as Ron was starting to speak and there was a strip of bleachers behind Ron where there was no one, but all through his speech they let people in, in groups of maybe 100 at a time, and by the end, it was full half way down to the bottom and full on the aisle to the middle all the way up. There were also people standing, so I'd say whatever the seats were was roughly at capacity, and once Ron started speaking likely a bunch in the line left. Even in the 'with tickets' section people weren't sure we'd get in and there was an entire other 'waiting list' line.

The Coldplay concert anaconda posted looks like it was farther forward than Ron's podium and I doubt people sat in the back section for that, so the back sections of bleachers may not have come into play, and I don't know if they used the top bleachers or not. On the other hand, it looks like people were on the tennis court itself for Coldplay, and that didn't happen last night. So whatever the seats are, and some for those pressing their noses against the fences, I guess is the number.

I wish the media would tell people about congressional districts. It isn't if you are first or second in the state alone, but if you win a DISTRICT or districts that gets delegates.

This pic shows about 2/3 of the crowd and was made from only 2 still shots. I still think a lot more than 6K were there because people were crammed together on the benches.

+rep to the person who takes all of the accumulated photos and hand counts the crowd in the stands. :D

We got there an hour early (7:30), and had to walk about half a mile to get from the beginning to the end of the line of those who pre-registered.

I'm not clear..were you pre-registered? Were there any other speakers? Sorry for all the questions..I'm going to Berkeley tonight and trying to figure out what to expect, especially since the facility there only seats about 2,000.

The event started at 8:30 and people who pre-registered could enter at 7:30. I got there at 7:30 too and I had to walk 10 minutes just to get to the end of the pre-registered line. I ddin't get in til about 8:15. There was only one speaker before Ron Paul and he spoke for about 5 minutes.

Was a great rally. Sadly probably only a 1/4 of the people that showed up will actually vote.
