At Debate Tonight, It's Time for RP to be AGGRESSIVE

Anderson Cooper will be one of the moderators. CIA cooper, 'nuff said. Paul will have 30 seconds & cooper will tell him his time is over after 14 seconds -- just like the CNN/Youtube debate.

Remember one of Reagan's turning points - the infamous "I paid for this microphone" line. It is time for "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and go for the throat, and be seen as "a man" not "a wierd intellectual."

SHOW "BALLS" and "LEADERSHIP".

Republicans want a fighter right now, and that's been Paul's weak point to date. The party is depressed, angry, and adrift, and is begging for a leader, not a panderer or follower.

Rhetoric, tone, and attitude are key right now.

Right on. I totally agree.

Compiled quotes of this thread......

nuklbone sez: "I know it's not his nature but I think the debate tonight is Ron Paul's last chance to make an impact on the election."

Eponym_mi sez: "Doberman not a Chihuahua!
(Perhaps, a better analogy would be a weimaraner ?)

IHaveaDream sez: "Ron Paul will be the typical wallflower that he ususally is in these debates. People don't want that. They need to see some assertiveness from a potential leader and RP is just not delivering in that area."

(Sounds like IHaveaDream should change it to IHadaDream .)

marcus3x sez: "....a simple strategy would be for paul to speak up and force his way into the conversation."
"He should've been aggressive starting with the first debate."

RonRules Sez: "Assertive is what Ron Paul should be tonight. Not an attacker."

Ira Aten sez: "Agreed, he needs to be very, very aggressive tonight"

Gimme Some Truth sez: "He does need to take on the other candidates..."

Maz2331 sez:"Rhetoric, tone, and attitude are key right now."

pacelli Sez: "Republican voters want to see toughness. If you ain't tough, you ain't going to win."

pathis sez: "He needs to start acting like he really wants this."

Below is my least favorite. Truth may indeed hurt, for now Im in denial and am hoping for the best as my hopes are for Ron Paul to do what needs to be done and take an assertive stand.

nyjohn sez: "Dr. Paul has written to you that we are heading straight for Super Tuesday. Our opponents are free to beat up on each other and wear themselves down while we gather our supporters and prepare to storm the convention with delegates. " Today's article at Ron Paul's website.

"He NEEDS to be. But he won't. There's no reason to think this time it'll be any different. I wish we at least had the Ron from the first Reagan debates, but it seems like we're going to be stuck with the stumbling over his words, talking too fast, passive Ron we've always had."

realist Sez: "He will only be marginalized to the extent that he passively accepts such treatment. That isn't polite or respectful, but it is "giving what we've gotten". This is the time to fight fire with fire and IF he dosen't make a stand here, in the last debate before super tuesday, I'm not sure he ever will.

Dr. Paul must show that he IS presidential timber, and that he is capable of taking control of the issues and the debate. The trick is going to be to come off as authoritative from a postion of concern, and not angry, from a position of desperation."

The above post regrettably may be closer to the truth and sadly... reality sucks...... we shall see.

Either way, blame or praise will be heaped upon Ron Paul himself. There is no better demonstration of the free market of ideas. Next Tuesday we'll see the results of tonight's "debate" and will signal the beginning of two paths: The implosion or the ascendency of the Ron Paul movement.

One thing I don't like is how every time he talks about what 'Republican' means he brings up the Dept of Edu. He always throws that one in there, but fails to explain it. For someone who has never heard about Paul (still many out there) they hear that and think he's cooky. I just wish he'd leave that out or EXPLAIN it further. (Coming from a mom of 2 I just tense up when I hear him bring that up in a debate without expansion at all!!!)

This has been one of his biggest challenges. He speaks to the public like he's speaking to his libertarian economist buddies. He thinks he'll get a rousing applause from the general public when he says that he'll close the Dept of Education and doesn't realize that, without explaining further, most people think that he'll close all the public schools!

When he says he'll close the IRS, most people think that's where 100% of the tax revenue comes from. He has the worst speech writers in the business (i.e. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have any).

It is time to show some guts and tap into the dissatisfaction with Romney and McCain among the Conservative base. Another answer like he hit Fox with ("Can I participate in the current debate?")

I have to say, for someone that is on the fence and is ready to be swayed, you two hit the nail on the head.

The key in this debate, and from here out, is to understand that its not just about energizing his base...which is by far the best base and grassroots of the pact two decades...but its bringing others INTO it.

Getting up there and saying the exact same things, in the same terms he's been doing, is not going to bring anyone new in. "Get rid of the Dept of Education" "Get rid of the IRS" "Get out of Iraq" are great, short, buzzword sound clips that will bring applause and rousing support from his libertarian followers and diehard fans.

Those things alone, without explanation, sound like crazy talk to most republicans. And those are the ones you need to sway to win the nomination. Yes...people need to do their own research. I understand that. But you have to convince people that the idea is novel enough to actually GO research. Find a good way in a minute to explain WHY we need to cut the Dept of Education, and how it would effect education in the united states. EXPLAIN why you want to get rid of the IRS in terms a common person can understand, not talking about college level economic policy.

Finally, there are a lot of republicans that are disatisfied with Romney and McCain on certain issues. HIT THEM ON THOSE ISSUES!

The War on Terror for example, is not one of them. The vast majority of people that want out of Iraq as fast as possible and want to pull the majority of our troops back from around the world are already following Ron Paul. You don't need to get those people. You're not going to win people from the Romney or McCain camp by telling them about your plan on the War on Terror/Iraq, because its likely one of the things they agree with Romney and McCain about.

How he CAN win them though is by pointing out, for instance, McCain's shoddy record on Immigration and his own record, and what he would do in regards to immigration and his thoughts on it. THAT is something you can use to take people that support McCain and switch them over...by showing them there is a better option on that point, and if that's their main point, they may switch.

The biggest problem Paul has is when he goes after issues that are likely to bring NEW people into his campaign, he ends up tieing it in with issues that are causing these people to stay away (such as the war in iraq, or get rid of [x] department buzzwords with no explanation). Stop that. Get the people interested in you, and some of your positions, and once their interested expose them to more of your views. Get them going into those views with you in a favorable light and its more likely they'll learn and accept them.

Paul could take this, but its going to take a change in strategy to a point and an understanding that pandering to his base and his base alone is not going to grow that base any and is not going to allow him to overcome McCain nor Romney.

^^^ Ron Paul being aggressive. He definitely has the ability. LMAO I love this video. Let's hope he gets fired up. The applause that will follow after that kind of firey approach will draw some good attention to regular slightly apathetic voters.

I agree he needs to be more assertive. He is just so humble, the anti-politician.

I love that video too! But, is there anything recent that even approaches the intensity of that Morton Downey video?

The sad thing is, back before 9-11 Alan Keyes sounded A LOT like Ron Paul.

If Keyes had his way, there would be a Constitutional ammendment declaring that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Saviour of all mankind.

attention getter

I know it's not his nature but I think the debate tonight is Ron Paul's last chance to make an impact on the election. Instead of waiting for the moderators to throw him a bone and let him speak, he needs to agressively ATTACK McCain, Romney, & Huckabee and draw them into a confrontation. I want to see more heated back-and-forth like he had with Huckabee & Guiliani in debates past.

At this point, why not? He's got nothing to lose.

It'd be cool if he started off by going down the line, slapping each of the other candidates---just one good whack across the face of each of em...it'd make sure he got some attention this time.

As a Catholic, I agree with Alan Keyes about many of his beliefs, but our government wasn't designed to be a theocracy, making anti-abortion constitutional amendments just as unconstitutional as the Roe v Wade ruling. I definitely disagree with his foreign policy. He was my "lesser of two evils" candidate before I found out about Ron Paul.

Yup. And he can do this by calling them what they are -- neoconservatives. The same mindset that George W. Bush has and if continued will destroy the United States.

It would be nice if he could do like Edwards did to Clinton a couple of months ago and throw out some nasty aggressive attack and then give a little heart felt smile with a twinkle in his eye for the camera.

Wonder what RP was joking with McCain about? Romney was laughing too. Maybe about Giuliani dropping out?

I'm gonna kick my wall for every time McCain says "let's have some straight talk."

What the hell was that...anderson skipping Paul's turn for huckabee who is right across from him. How disrespectful
