From Pravda News:

The story about the detention of a Russian female student of the Moscow State University, Varvara Karaulova, who decided to run away from home to join the ranks of the Islamic State does not seem to be surprising anymore.

According to Russian security officials, there are up to five thousand Russian citizens fighting on the side of ISIS terrorists.
The head of the CIS Anti-Terrorist Center Andrei Novikov said that "a part of the information about the citizens of the Russian Federation was confirmed and documented.

Unfortunately, the story of the escape of Varvara Karaulova, became public only owing to her father, who went to Russian security services, that, in turn, informed Turkish colleagues and Interpol. Another 13 Russian citizens were detained on the border along with Varvara. The arrests came as a surprise, as no one was looking for those people.

Back in February, director of the Russian Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, said that there were nearly 2,000 Russians fighting with terrorists. All those people crossed the border easily to build an imaginary new world.

The attackers of the Turkey Airport were from a group of 40 who headed there about a month ago. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-turkey-blast-raids-idUSKCN0ZG0RM

Three suspected Islamic State suicide bombers who killed 44 people in a gun and bomb attack at Istanbul's main airport this week were Russian, Uzbek and Kyrgyz nationals, a Turkish government official said on Thursday.

The revelation that one of the attackers was a Russian national comes at an awkward time for relations between Ankara and Moscow, strained since Turkey shot down a Russian warplane near the Syrian border last November.

Agency confirms 5000 Russians are among ISIS fighters

Russian anti-terrorism agency boss, Colonel General Andrei Novikov, has said between 200 and 5000 Russians are among Islamic State (IS) fighters.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, June 17, he said authorities confirmed that a minimum of around Russian passport holders have joined the extremist group in Iraq and Syria.

Washington's proxies will recruit Wahhabi Jihadi cannon fodder from anywhere, including Chechnya.

How many of them are Saudi Arabian and why hasn't NATO run any drills near the Saudi Arabian borders?

Yeah and the mastermind was protected by Europeans as Russians tried to extradite him. It seems that FSB protects us more than our own intelligence. Same with Tsarnaev brothers Russians kept sending us info that they are radicalized.

Also your article quotes some regions that are former USSR but no longer part of Russia.

Edit:nvm read the article in a wrong way.

A second attacker confirmed as Russian. The attackers came through Syria.

Officials believe the men -- identified by state media as being from Russia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan -- entered Turkey about a month ago from the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa in Syria, bringing with them the suicide vests and bombs used in the attack, the source said.

The terrorists rented an apartment in the Fatih district of Istanbul, where one of the attackers left behind his passport, the Turkish government source said.
The attack was "extremely well planned with ISIS leadership involved," the source said.

According to Turkey the three attackers were from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and the Republic of Dagestan (bordering Chechnya) : http://www.reuters.com/article/us-turkey-blast-raids-idUSKCN0ZG0RM
Only the Dagestani would be considered Russian. Dagestan by the way is 90% Sunni Muslim. During the first Chechnyan war Chechnya Jihadis invaded Dagestan in an attempt to try to transform their cause into an Islamic movement. Likewise Dagestan became the epicenter of Jihadi violence during the second Chechnyan war as well.

Of course Zippy mentions this for the faulty purpose of trying to erroneously connect Russia and Syria to the crime.
There are however some important connections to be made from what Zippy points out, but they are not favorable to Zippy's Washington can do no wrong perspective.

Despicably, sick neocons in Washington supported (support) the Chechnya-Dagestani terrorists and jihadists.

The fact that some of the terrorists that Washington/CIA promoted have taken their trade to Turkey is just more blowback of the insane neocon policy and operations.

And of course they would come through the Turkey Syria border. Turkey has had an open revolving door for ISIS folks since their beginning. That would of course be the easiest route thanks to Turkey and Washington. Now some blowback has come back to bite them.
