If you are familiar to TGT, by now you very well know that we are suckers for things that age well and accouterments with awesome hardware. Enter Filson, part deux. Earlier in the year we discussed the absolute perfection of Filson’s oversized version of their own original briefcase, which they unlovingly dubbed the padded computer bag. Well, here is the best companion a DSLR totting, who-is-carrying-the-ammo?, adventure-man can sling.

Dubbed their Medium Field Bag, it has the hallmarks of a well made Filson: heavy canvas twill, leather trim and rugged brass hardware. Its small enough while remaining perfectly functional, but large enough to carry everything but the laptop, for those days that you are feeling neo-luddite. Ranging from hunting friendly to city slicking, the bag is sure to please. Clearly, Filson has another winner.

Our favorite part? How quickly the personal wear sets in and affirms this is undoubtedly your-own. More shots after the jump.

All Filson stuff is top of the line and very expensive, exceptionally durable. The clothing used to be made of wool and canvas/duck , probably still is.Meant to be a rare purchase. That would make a good map bag. Nicer than my govt issue, lol.No way in hell I would give $275 for it....

Thank you for the heads up on the quality from this company. Agree, $275 is a lot for a bag.

I went back and checked out their clothing and was pleasantly surprised to find that they carried canvas pants for $120. They remind me a lot of the Patagonia climbing pants I used to be very monogamous about back in the day. $75-80 a pop, double canvas down the front past the knees and double butt. All triple stitched. Medium to heavy weight canvas. Like Korean war BDU thick canvas. Checked Patagonia and presumably because I and a bunch of other ppl wrote in asking them to bring these back, they have some but no double fabric and it's light canvas. Looks like they are phasing them out again :(

Anyway, Filson has these, which seem pretty close:

Is $120 a lot to pay for a pair of pants? Yes and No. Lets look at the last 6 pairs of jeans I bought at WallyWorld:

butt ripped out after 1 month
button above zipper popped off on first wearing
3 months and still good
crotch ripped out on first wearing
crotch ripped out when squatting after a couple of weeks
butt ripped out on first wearing

The price is also about average of what you pay for good heavy duty clothing from a police supplier.

So yeah, I'm thinking about picking up a pair or three.

thank you for the tip and +rep

I used to get the catalog back in the 80's and 90's. I kind of had a thing,(started getting soft in my old age) for keeping a good pair of canvas hunting pants ( keeps the briars from pusing through the front of the legs) . I also had a weakness for chamois hunting shirts. I usually just got those from Gander Mountain because they were cheaper than L L Bean ad Cabelas .Filson used to have an awesome wool shirt.I am sure they still do . It is not something that would be discontinued.Probably run nearly as much as that bag though by now .....
