Army developing anti-suicide nasal spray

Much more profitable to treat it as a disease, epidemic even, to be treated, rather than a problem to be addressed. There are unfortunately far too many examples of this....

Exactly, chasing after symptoms is so much more profitable in the long run than uprooting the actual ailment.

Want a soldier without a conscience? Give them this stuff.

And then once they are no longer needed they can just as easily be disposed of in some random poverty stricken neighborhood back home, to live ever after in squalor as a rambling shell of a human being. Great job U.S. Military, [insert-whatever-inspiring-motto] Ooh-rah!

It is sad the way that the government treats veterans.

Whats the big deal?

From the article, it's clear that this isn't a new drug, just a new delivery system:

"News of the nasal spray comes as a relief to some, who had to endure spinal taps for injections of the medicine."

So it's clearly a prescription medication used only on some soldiers that now has a more convenient delivery system.

So this isn't particularly newsworthy.

Just more crap, much of it untested, that will kill you that much sooner from your own side, that the enemy.

Our government have used our soldiers as guinea pigs for a long time. Tuskgee airman is one example. [I will list the references of these insane experiments below]

The mere fact that once you enlist, they literally 'own' you, should go against the grain of anyone who loves and cherishes liberty. And every time I hear some flag waving American chant some silliness about how our veterans fight for our freedom, I become overwhelmed with sadness, of their ignorance.

lets see,, Euphoria+Stimulant
Can you say habit forming ?(if not addictive)

And without those pesky attacks of conscience.

Sorry,, but I see this shit as nothing but bad.

I'm in the army so may be forced to take it? I'd be okay with it if the effects only last for a deployment? I don't have the tendency to get addicted (I.E. I've had Vikadin, Oxycodon, never got addicted)

Being on thought altering drugs (anti-depressants) why on active duty in a war zone is the concern, especially with it's convenience.

Sheesh. Anyone remember the first episode of Start Trek TNG, with Q bringing forth the soldiers fueled by drugs? They had that sniffer dangling from their armor.

Actually,, I think that was a side theme in a few Sci-Fi stories.
keeping the troops addicted,, so they could maintain control. And creating SuperSoldiers was a side project of MK-Ultra.

Once again Sci-Fi meets present reality.

The army finally figured a solution to a problem for once. Instead of suicide, they can kill them with nasal spray. Brilliant.

researchers found a naturally occuring neurochemical called thyrotropin-releasing hormone, or TRH, that has euphoric, calming, anti-depressant effects.

This sounds like a perfect drug, maybe mixed with something else, if you wanted to create a school or theater shooter...

I'm reminded of this one outer limits episode where solders were given drugs via an injection pump to protect them from getting sick from contact with an invading alien race they were fighting. Then someones pump broke down and they found out that all the drugs did was make soldiers who were fighting aliens and protected by an injection pump LOOK like aliens, but they weren't..
