Arlen Specter Has Died

He really didn't look well when he was campaigning last time. I didn't realize he was dying, though.

Arlen Specter was a statist through and through and an enemy of liberty. He's a primary reason we're stuck with Obamacare right now. If Obamacare remains in effect, Specter will eventually have a hand in the deaths in thousands of people who will be denied care. The man is no hero. He's just another prestige seeking politician. He was a domestic enemy of the original intent of the Constitution.

I don't think anyone here thinks he was a hero, I cheered on his opponent. However, he just died so out of respect for the family, I don't see any reason to choose this precise point in time to dump on him.

I can empathize with the family of everyone who has just had someone they love die, actually.

Some of us are more empathetic than others. And some people are reasonably bitter. I'm right in between that somewhere. There was a time when I thought Specter was one of the more thoughtful or reasonable people in congress. It was a long time ago and I have no idea why.

Probably his opposition to gun control. That was also when people claimed that the 2nd amendment protected the others. We now know this was false, since the bill of rights has been gutted around the 2nd amendment for the most part.
