Are you from Iowa? Write to the newspapers!

I really should add, if you are from the United States you should write to your newspaper.

But really, Iowa, and NH and SC need to be focused on heavily.

I sent this to my paper -- is it okay to send to Iowa? I thought it might get printed as it's "more general" than "vote for Ron Paul" LOL

Presidential Debates

Do we expect to learn something we didn't know before?
Do we expect gaffs, forgotten lines, memory blanks and comedy?
Do we expect entertainment, like a football game?
Do we expect to see the future president take command of the stage?
Do we really believe there is much difference between the candidates?
Do we watch with hope for the future, because the present isn't so great?
Do we watch just to cheer who is currently top in the polls?
Do we ever feel cheated by the questions asked?
Do we care that some candidates are allotted more time than others?
Do we think televison reveals everything?
Do we trust media to tell us the truth?

My advice is: Give up on debates and research the candidates yourself!
Give up on party labels: Democrat, Republican, Libertarian
Check the opposition's view of your candidate. Is there truth there?
All media is slanted and they surely won't tell you the dirt on their candidate
of choice. No candidate will tell you the mistakes of their past. It's your job as a
voter to save America -- Do your homework!

Excellent letter! I'll try a few of your ideas myself for my next letter... if you don't mind. ;)

Sure -- anyone can use this letter -- copyright free (I'm honored). A change or two here: Go for it!

Thanks, below is a new draft of my own--very different, but I borrowed a couple ideas.

Dear Editor:
I enjoyed the Veterans’ Day edition of the Des Moines Register. Our veterans honor our country; we should honor our veterans every day, especially on election day.
I challenge my fellow Iowans to carefully research which candidate is the most worthy to lead this nation that our troops have fought and died for. It is the least we can do.

Which candidate has twice as many donations as all other Republican candidates combined from active duty troops?
Which candidate, according to Ronald Reagan, “is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first.”
Which candidate has a complete and practicable plan to restore America economically with a balanced budget by 2015?
Which candidate has never voted for unconstitutional spending in 30 years in the U.S. Congress?
Which candidate has said “NO!” to big government and prodigal spending so many times that his nickname is Dr. No?

The answer is Ron Paul, but don't take my word for it. Do your own homework. You owe it to your country to make an educated decision.
Sincerely,
Bethany Carson

Good news! I just got a phone call and email from the Cedar Falls Times; they say they will print the letter I sent them on Saturday.
