Are you from Iowa? Write to the newspapers!

bump for local media!! Newspapers love this stuff no matter who its for!

It isn't hard at all. They will publish your letter, it may take a few weeks depending on the size of the paper, but it will get out.

Actually if you would post it here first that would be nice.

The RPF could help make suggestions to it.

If everybody in Iowa would write a letter to the editor to every little nook and cranny newspaper in the state, a well written letter will spark interest. I suggest use the letter Romulus designed. It's a well written letter that gets people's attention.

I used it and you can read my story in the post. http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?322686-My-Letter-to-the-Editor-Got-Published

We need more involvement from people in Iowa. Looking at the meetup group page for Iowa, I notice only 19 active members. If you can't or won't join a meet up group, do something. People have got to take this serious if we're even going to have a chance to win there.

Really looking to set some wheels in motion with this.

Tv ads can't do it all, and the campaign won't be writing letters to each newspaper.

I was also was thinking of a idea where people could send factual info about other candidates to these small media outlets like news radio, newspapers, etc. Sometimes these places allow suggestions for stories to be covered. You send info about the opposing candidates on stuff the BIG media outlets will not cover, may get covered in these smaller market venues. Anything to expose these shill candidates and make Ron Paul stand out.

Are there seriously no Iowans here at all?

I'm an Iowan, and I will get to work & post my drafts here for critiquing.
Last month I wrote one letter to the editor of the Waterloo Courier in response to a column by a local professor: http://wcfcourier.com/news/opinion...cle_dbd7e6a2-d597-11e0-9b5d-001cc4c002e0.html (scroll down)
My review of Dr. Paul's positions and why I choose to vote for him can be found at www.todaylibertyordeath.blogspot.com .

Thanks for inspiring me to get back to work! Go Ron Paul! God bless you all.

Ok, here's my draft for Times Citizen (Iowa Falls). Any suggestions on what I could do better? I don't see a word limit for letters to the editor with the Times Citizen, but I'm still holding my breath with 312 words.

Dear Editor:
Ronald Reagan said, “The federal government has taken too much tax money from the people, too much authority from the states, and too much liberty with the Constitution.” I agree, and that is why I support Ron Paul.

Ron Paul’s plan for a balanced budget by 2015 cuts $1 trillion in federal spending the first year by enforcing the Constitution’s strict limits on federal power. The plan to Restore America Now deeply slashes bureaucracy, reduces the President’s salary to $39,336, and passes the savings on to you with the abolition of income and death taxes. Dr. Paul’s website www.ronpaul.2012.com gives the complete outline.

Ron Paul is consistently pro-life. He is dedicated to protecting the Right-to-Work. He believes in keeping Social Security promises to senior citizens while allowing young people to opt-out. And as Commander in Chief, Ron Paul will make securing our own borders a top priority, avoid unnecessarily long wars, bring out troops home, honor veterans and revitalize the military by eliminating waste in a trillion dollar budget. To quote Reagan, “Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country.”

In January 2012 Republicans need to nominate a candidate who has a plan, a candidate who won’t change his mind, a candidate who keeps his word, and a candidate who can win. Ron Paul has a plan; he has expounded it consistently throughout the years in Liberty Defined (2011), End the Fed (2009), The Revolution: A Manifesto (2008), and The Case for Gold (1982). Paul has always voted in support of the Constitution in his 12 terms in the U.S. Congress, and is time we vote for him.

Outstanding, I love it.

Very Good BethanyGrace. One misspell I found. Where it says: "bring our troops home" you have the word "out".

a candidate who won’t change his mind

I would reword this to be "a principled candidate" or "a principled candidate who lobbyists don't bother visiting" or something else along those lines, maybe "won't change his mind to suit political winds". How it is now, to me, makes him sound unnecessarily rigid.

Thanks IDefendThePlatform, RDM, and gerryb!
I changed "a candidate who won't change his mind" to "a candidate who won't change his mind to suit political winds." I changed "out" to "our," and I added "it" to the last line: "it is time..."
Letter is now submitted to Times Citizen and Ackley World Journal. Cheers!

This letter has 354 words, and the newspaper has a 400 word limit. Let me know what you think.

Dear Editor:
Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart, was Made in America. It’s time we Restore America Now by following the traditional wisdom that made Walton a great entrepreneur, makes Wal-Mart a success, and makes America strong.

Walton (Made in America):
“Every time Wal-Mart spends one dollar foolishly, it comes right out of our customer’s pockets.”
“One thing my mother and dad shared completely was their approach to money: they just didn’t spend it.”
Every time the federal government spends one dollar foolishly, it comes out of your pocket. Don’t you wish they just didn’t spend it? Ron Paul’s plan to Restore America Now cuts $1 trillion in federal spending the first year by enforcing the Constitution’s strict limits on federal power and passes the savings on to you with the abolition of income and death taxes.

David Glass (as quoted by Walton):
“What you have to do is just draw a line in the dirt, and force bureaucracy behind that line.”
Walton:
“I feel like it’s up to me as a leader to set an example. It’s not fair for me to ride one way and ask everybody else to ride another way.”
Bureaucracy does not equal efficiency. Ron Paul plans to slash bureaucracy and government waste by eliminating 5 cabinet departments, cutting Congressional pay and perks, and curbing excessive federal travel. This will leave the American people with efficient, qualified protection and a balanced budget by 2015. Ron Paul’s salary as President will be $39,336, approximately the median personal income of an American worker.

Walton:
“We believe in the value of the dollar.”
Dr. Paul plans to conduct a full audit of the Federal Reserve and implement competing currency legislation to strengthen the dollar and stabilize inflation.

Restore America Now (www.ronpaul2012.com) calls for the repeal of ObamaCare, honors Social Security promises to the elderly while allowing young workers to opt out, defends the rights of the unborn, protects individual liberties, and provides for the national defense.

Join me in supporting Ron Paul’s plan to Restore America Now. Join me in voting for a government with Always Low Taxes and Satisfaction of Liberty Guaranteed.

Letters to the editor are a GREAT way to get the word out, and best of all they are free!

@BethanyGrace, Amazing letter! +rep!

Thank you, GeorgiaAvenger and IndianaPolitico.
The letter will be mailed this morning the the Marshalltown Times Republican.
Here is a draft for the Cedar Rapids Gazette, a paper with a 250 word limit. The draft has 235 words.

Dear Editor:
“Isn’t it a shame that future generations can’t be here to see all the wonderful things we’re doing with their money?” Earl Wilson quipped. He’s right; it is a shame.
Our grandparents worked hard to build a strong nation and to preserve the flame of liberty. Will we cherish the flame and pass it on to our children undimmed? Or will we shackle liberty and bind future generations as servants to debt, so we can enjoy a bowl of pottage?
We must fight prodigal impulses, cut federal obesity, and Restore America Now.
Following Dr. Ron Paul’s plan, federal spending can be cut by $1 trillion in one year by enforcing the Constitution’s strict limits on federal power, and the budget can be balanced by 2015. The Right-to-Work must be protected. The lives of the unborn must be valued. Social Security Promises to senior citizens must be honored while young people are permitted to opt-out. Our troops must be brought home. The military must be revitalized by eliminating waste in a trillion dollar budget, and individual liberties must be ensured.
Let not our generation reenact the story of the little girl who told her mother, “You know the fragile candlestick that you said has been passed down from generation to generation?” “Yes.” “Well, this generation just dropped it.”
Join me in supporting Ron Paul and future generations’ claim to the eternal flame of liberty.
