Not all people that carry Guns are Cops, Military, or Criminals.

Fairly straight forward question. Feel free to add anything you want as to why or why not? And yes, I am limiting the Poll to a simple Yes or No, even though I know there is a Gray Area.

I feel really comfortable at the shooting range. I feel comfortable when "civilians" are open or concealed carry. I feel comfortable at a gun show.

I am afraid of the LACK OF IMPULSE CONTROL demonstrated by the roided up nutcases on a power trip because they run around with a weapon strapped to their side and a badge on their chest.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it's the badge, not the weapon, that's to blame for the behavior.

I'm more afraid of people who can never even envision themselves using a firearm in self defense and who also vote - this is the fearful and uncertain stampeding herd so dangerously consequent throughout history.

I grew up in rural Alberta and even though our gun laws have become very silly and restrictive, pretty much everyone i knew had guns in their homes and I never thought anything of it. My dad had about 5 hunting rifles and a harpoon in a cabinet (wood with glass doors) and lots of local farmers had a small rifle by the front and/or back door for scaring off coyotes, etc. We never touched them. My father in law has a .22 by his back door still, though that's not technically legal these days :S . We had a handgun in our closet that I didnt even know about all those years lol....

It would worry me if I didnt trust the PERSON. Like a couple years ago, I found out one of my son's friend's fathers was arrested for armed robbery of two pharmacies. The news said he had a handgun. He claimed innocence but I told my son he was never going over there again. The thought of this oxycontin-addicted guy possibly having a gun in the house where my son played did not sit well with me. It took 2 years to go to trial and he was recently convicted of one of the robberies (not enough evidence in the first) so ya - I'm glad I stopped my son from going over there. I felt bad for that man's son - he was a really nice kid. But I'm not exposing my kid to that stuff. Purely because of the person, not the gun itself.

All of my neighbors have guns and I feel more secure because of it.

Depends. Who is carrying the gun?

Personally, I feel safe when I carry my gun. :D

"Are you afraid of people who have Guns?"

Yes, if they are agents of a government which is telling me I CAN'T have a gun!

EDIT: Seriously, I've never felt more comfortable than when I'm around regular folks who are open carrying and know their business.

In Kennesaw, GA, all homeowners are actually required to have a firearm... Not surprisingly, they're saw a massive drop in crime right afterwards (89% in the time the State saw a 10% drop), and have sustained the low levels in the 2 decades they've been doing it...

Now, I actually side with the ACLU that it shouldn't be mandated any more than any other right should be your choice, but as for being scared of people with guns, ummm yeah, that's the point...

What's far scarier is the cliche "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns"... In other words, I'm only as scared as I am unarmed myself...

It's not people carrying guns that is scary, it is people with a monopoly on violence carrying guns. As many others have said, when I am at my local gun store surrounded by dozens of open carrying free citizens I feel as safe as I ever have in my life. However, when I am in the presence of even one badged representative of the state carrying a weapon I am absolutely terrified for my life.

So what Im getting from just about everyone in the thread is that it isnt the Gun that scares us, its the types of people that carry them.

I used to feel uneasy about guns when I was younger (though I was never a "gun grabber"). If you ever encounter a situation where you wished you had a gun on you, you'll change your mind about being uneasy.
