If it happens it wont be portrayed as a hijacking. The Romney camp would insist that it is strategically beneficial, and they would be right, but I don't believe they would willingly favor the move.

Which is why we need to muscle them into "favoring it". ;)

Look at what happened in Nv and is going to happen in Montana. IF you create grudges, they last, and you get thrown out and not worked with, going forward. Places where we were treated better have a better working relationship going in all directions.

A Massachusetts President and a Texas Vice President. Historically it worked out badly for a the Massachusetts President.

Hair breath away from presidency. People in their 50's do get heart attacks ;p

VP's power depends on what the president gives him or her. Even if Romney gives Ron no power, I am ok with that.

Why? Well, Ron is not exactly young and Ron wanted to retire from Congress. With no power = less stress. However, if the media allows it, he could use it as an educational platform to reach out to millions with speeches. C'mon, VP should have at least 1 speech every year that many people may watch.

If VP is the backup goal, then it would be for educational purposes.

I can't wait for Ron to debate Biden... tear that dinosaur crony to pieces (assuming biden does not attack ron for his different views from romney), but I am sure/hope Ron is prepared for that. HAS to be at least 1 VP debate, so even if romney/ron loses... millions of repub/demo/independents would have watch Ron destroy Biden.

Also I think it is genius. If the economy collapses under Romney, Romney would get the blame. When was it the last time someone blamed the VP?

I cannot imagine Ron Paul sitting next to Nancy Pelosi behind Mitt Romney at the State of the Union speech, leading the clapping for every piece of spittle that comes out of Romney's mouth.

Is that really what you imagine Ron would do? I suppose he couldn't jump up and give a rebuttal, not right there, not right then. But then next time he was interviewed, you don't think they would ask if he agreed on such and so point?

I think the issue here is that as nominee, whether President OR VP, to convention, even if voted DOWN, he gets an automatic, unedited, nominee speech. I'd rather we did it for the President slot though, unless Romney delegates would back Ron hoping we'd campaign for Ron as VP. (I would. And that is exactly what my sign would say. "Ron Paul for VP 2012")

It isn't going to happen, outside my dreams though, I don't think, so it seems to me there is nothing lost by nominating him on the floor for President.

What I bolded I agree with completely. Ron is itching to give HIS speech and I'd love to see him get the chance, however it may be. Whatever flows from that can only be a good thing. The reality of RP being VP is quite another thing, however.

Imagine he and Romney trying to get their positions to jibe enough to mount a unified campaign. That would take more than an etch-a-sketch could deliver. Romney could not abandon his entire campaign platform and Ron won't budge on his principles. We've all heard Ron say he could only endorse if a candidate moved towards HIM, not the other way around.

I'd love to see the speech, but I just don't see Ron Paul as Mitt Romney's VP. That's all I'm saying. I just want to see Ron's strength at the convention maximized in every way possible. If a VP nominating speech is part of that, fine by me. Of course, I'm still holding on to my delusion of Ron Paul being our next POTUS. :D

I do not imagine Ron jibing one iota, that is what I like about my fantasy. It is MY fantasy and I can dream it as I like.

I want Ron to get his speech too, but don't see why it can't be as Pres nominee. Unless Romney has something serious to offer Ron to make nominating him for the speech as VP instead worth it.

But I still cling to the Ron as Potus plan as my number one end game, as well, if we can win it. Fight for what we can get, and as much as we can get.

That would indeed be bizarre.

This is just one more piece of speculation that has nothing to do with anything, just like the "Well since Romney has the nomination already, obviously Ron Paul is interested in influencing a few planks in the party platform in Tampa." It's someone making guesses because they are more comfortable believing that RP delegates won't try to nominate him for President. Denial -- it isn't just a river in Egypt.

I'm not sure comments like that are a good way to push our idea, hmm?

And neither is being co-opted by Mitt Romney through the use of Rand because our ideas will be thrown out the window after the Paul supporters vote for Romney. That is all the Republican establishment and Romney care about. Romney advisers have listed Rand as a "valued ally." Hmmm I wonder why??? Votes. It's why Rand will be campaigning with Romney in the coming weeks according to sources.

Listen, there is no way in hell Ron is going to be the VP. He and Romney agree on nothing and that's coming from the man himself. You can't have one guy giving a speech in one state while your teammate is giving the opposite one in another campaign stop.

I am even going to bet Ron gets denied a prime time speaking slot.
