Are humans supposed to eat meat?

You are a battery that receives energy as it can. Meat, vegetables. air, sun etc....

Without the energy to keep your battery going you will perish.

There are many approaches to recharging....

I'm really just trying to get a healthy diet and stick to it. I ate a lot of Taco Bell and Wendy's growing up and I'm trying to change my bad ways.

You're in the same situation I was in about 8 or 9 years ago.

I first cut my meat intake down to once every week or two. Eventually I started eating even less. Now I eat fish once or twice a month (usually sushi) and other types of meat maybe 3 times a year total.

What I found was that my metabolism increased RAPIDLY when I stopped eating meat. I later found out that there is a book called "Eating Right for Your Blood Type". It says that since I have A+ blood, I thrive on a vegetarian diet. If you have Type O blood, a vegetarian diet may be more difficult. You may lose energy and actually decrease your metabolism.. but it's worth a shot if you're willing to try it.. but I would start eating veggie all week and then have some fish on the weekend. As you find out what types of vegetarian foods work best you will still have some leeway as you will have your weekly meal of fish.

What is your blood type? If it's not A+ or O, then you probably won't notice a huge difference switching back and forth, but perhaps more in the long run if you are able to get a good veggie diet going. It's certainly better than fast food...

Where do you shop for your food? Eating grass fed meat and organic/cage free chicken is preferable to the factory farm stuff. Honestly, if it weren't for refrigeration technology, I don't know that a vegetarian diet would be even feasible in most locales. I'd probably turn to eating more meat in the winter.

I would eat each and every one of the posters on this forums if the situation was such that I needed the energy from your flesh to continue to exist. The human machine is such that it can adapt to multiple energy sources.

It would help if I had some A-1, but at that point I don't think I would be to picky.:D (toothy smiley)

I would probably go for the fat people first. I bet their meat has excellent marbling.:D

You're getting soylent green and you're going to like it. Or else be prepared for the scoops.

We're not "supposed" to eat anything in particular. We can, however, eat many things and some of those things provide calories and nutrition. There was a time in human history (duriwhen man did not have access to much vegitation, so they had no choice but to eat meat. In fact, humans hunted many animals to extinction or near extinction during the last ice age.

Now, an entirely separate argument is what diet will provide optimal health and lifespan. In that case, beef and pork are certainly not meats that you should aim to eat on a regular basis. Poultry is pretty lean, and fish is great for you. It has a lot to do with the fat and cholesterol content of these various meats. Generally speaking, you would be better off getting protein and fat from things like nuts or beans.

I'm really disconnected from the food I eat, as I have never hunted, killed, skinned, and done all the other necessary steps to get an animal to where it is ready to be consumed. Today I started watching Food Inc. and I paused it to ask this question to the forum: Are we suppose to eat meat? My thoughts are that we are really suppose to eat fruits, vegetables, grains, etc. and meat should be eaten only as a last resort/survival kind of thing. I don't think I'm going to stop eating meat anytime soon, but I'd like to hear some thoughts on this topic. Thanks.

If god didn't want us to eat meat then why did she make animals so tasty?

Didn't really deserve its own thread... But I doubt you can do worse than these assholes:

Oh for crying out loud..

"We have come to celebrate the birth of my daughter's son," Shah told AFP.

"She got married two years ago and I had promised I would sacrifice an animal after she had her first child. I know that sacrificing is a bad idea, but I am scared the goddess will be angry if I do not keep my promise."

I think meat should only be eaten in a survival situation. Meat takes massive amounts of energy to digest. Our bodies are adapted to fruits and vegetables in their raw form. I am attempting to go raw vegan, in order to optimize my energy. Not that I don't care about animals, but I'm doing it mainly to enhance my mental and physical health. If you do eat meat, try not to mix protein and starch, as they are opposite in pH and can't be fully digested together. If you want to live life to the fullest, check out www.howtogoraw.com

What's your blood type?

they sure were buddy , but they were not meant to eat modern factory and grain fed meats

do some research on the difference in fat between grass fed and grain fed beef , you will find grass fed beef is much higher in omega 3 fats , also contains more beta-carotene giving the fat a more yellow colour instead of the pure white you get with grain fed.

Humans can digest meat. Humans can't digest rocks. We look at many other animal species which eat meat. It's established, verifiable, empirical fact that meat makes your brain work better.

If you choose to not eat meat because you're a big ole softy, that's your choice.

yes, your brain is *largely* comprised of cholesterol

and here's an interesting article about the Native Americans when the settlers first arrived. Apparently, they were so in shape, they would run down a buffalo and kill it on foot.

The whole evolution thingy doesn't add up in this instance. It's a fact that you can change your taste buds preferences in a few weeks. A Boston Cream pie Dunkin donut tastes real good. Then try eating clean for several months and it's a bit of a shock to the sytem. I've found not so much of a desire after a period of time.

I can attest to this. I gave up soda about three months ago.

Opening ANY can of soda now smells like the worst mix of chemical muck you can imagine.

No we are not supposed to eat meat, not only because of a health reason but because of the moral issue underlying the process of killing other conscious living creatures. It's bad karma.

Of course we have teeth to chew meat or vegetables, a given trait for humans to decide on there own if they chose to.

There are ways to eat meat occasionally without mass slaughter of innocent animals, such an immoral act in my opinion, not to mention logically inefficient at providing food. Time spent on growing food instead of breeding animals yields far better quantities of food, no need for the third world to starve really.

If you believe in Karma, what you kill in this life means you will take birth in that form and be killed in a similar way in your next life (that goes the same if you eat it but didn't kill it yourself). Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, you ain't getting off that easy.

Hey all, first post here.

I'm sure I'm very much in the minority here, but I think humans can be well on meat alone. Without getting too much into the science behind it, eating meat alone is fantastic for controlling insulin levels; frequent peaks and valleys in insulin levels lead to various disorders. For me, it was obesity, acid reflux, hypertension, hypoglycemia, and frequent but mild skin irritation. All gone when I switched to all meat a little more than a year ago. I've lost over 40 pounds and my blood tests come back completely normal.

I know this tends to be a polarizing topic, and I really don't want to get bogged down in discussing the science here too much - to be honest, I'm just a well-read layman on the subject, certainly no expert. For anyone interested in the science, check out http://www.zeroinginonhealth.com/, it's a good starting point. Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes makes a good case as well.
