Yes this happened about 2.5 years ago. It doesn't matter when it happened but it is good to know so you can talk intelligently about the incident.

Tube was recently dated; sorry for any confusion. Timely nonetheless.

Glad that the boy and his sister were not harmed. If Feinstien had her way they would have had to hide in a closet leaving their fate up to the intruders.

Wont see this on CNN...

Awesome. Thats all. Feinstein and her illk would take the position that the parents are guilty of neglect for leaving "children" at home.

I can't help but wonder how the coverage of this might have been different if the kid's father wasn't a cop ...

(aside: I am also wondering what was supposed to have been "surreal" about the crime scene)

There was a very, very similar incident in town a couple of years ago, except that neither parent was a cop. The coverage was, as I recall, pretty similar to this.

That's the southern plains. If they tried the hysteria that would accompany such an incident elsewhere (assuming it got reported at all), people would innundate the station with 'what the hell's wrong with you?' calls. And I pity the cop who tries to take either the child or the parent downtown over it, and the DA who tries to press charges.

Excellent. In this particular case, I was struck by the "it's all good" character of the on-the-scene police spokesman's explanation of the situation.

In most of the stories like this that I've seen, police spokesman are usually much more circumspect, especially so soon after such an incident.

This incident happened two or three years ago.

Maybe everyone on the thread is aware of that, but it doesn't appear clear from the OP or the replys.

Does it matter? Columbine happened years ago and it's brought up all the time like it was yesterday. And there is a school shooting where two of the students stopped the shooter and one of them was armed. We never hear that story brought up in these debates either. The point is, stories of civilians using these weapons to save lives are buried whereas the other stories are rehashed over and over again.

link? I'll adjust the op. The tube was dated Dec 2012.

This version from July 2010 says the incident happened on 29th June 2010

Its still relevant to the debate. However, people who haven't seen it reported in this week's news may believe the story is current and being spiked by the media.

Bookmarked. I'm looking at putting together a documentary on stories like this.
JM look up the spring field oregon school shooting. The boy that rushed the shooter had shot his dads ar15 and knew the sound of the bolt carrier locking back when the magazine was empty. They made their assualt them and stopped the shooter.

Thanks for the info! I will definitely research this.
