I'm taking a careers class at my university and I need to do an informational interview over the phone on a career i might pursue. This has to done with someone I currently don't know personally.

I'm majoring in math and economics so the career has to be something in either area. I'm open to a number of occupations so yours doesn't matter too much as long as its related to math/econ

The interview will be about 10 questions of me asking about you job/career and shouldn't take too long.

Thanks and I would appreciate it if one of you would help me out. The assignment is due thursday so the interview will need to be before then.

Thanks.

I know someone who may be able to help you out (he has a degree in both mathematics/statistics and economics), I will wait 'til he gets home from work tonight and then PM you (I'll let you interview on my phone). :)

The main problem is that most of the things you can do with economics degree these days are scams. I suppose you could trade the market, but of course that is so rigged that actually understanding it is of limited use. Talk to an accountant maybe? That's the only honest work I can think of at the nexus of those two disciplines in the current environment.

A better person to interview would be an unemployed person on govt welfare. I mean come on, The life of a 9 to 5 worker is far less intresting than the life of a man who does what he wants and gets paid by the govt.

Jokes aside. Like folks said math and econ degree often work in academia. Call any professor at any universty and they will be happy to talk to ya because most professors "LOVE" talking about themselves.

I don't think of accountants as all that noble, only because their existence relies on the government creating tax laws that only lobbyists and accountants understand.

I've seen many math majors working as software engineers. Would that be something you would ever consider?

Yes, I took a computer science class last semester. Liked it and did well. Taking more next semester. However, this assignment has to be a career i can pursue with my current major, although I'm sure there are plenty of software engineers around with math or econ degrees.
