Anyone watch South Park tonight?

What actually bugs me about this episode is that Randy was right. He got everyone to
stop spending money on crap, although he was a bit extreme about it. (Everyone was
wearing their bed sheets instead of buying clothes & everyone rode llamas instead of
wasting gas.) Kyle as "Jesus" sacrifices himself at the end by putting the peoples' debts
on his American Express card that had no limit so everyone would have confidence in the
economy again & resume shopping. Obama got the credit for restoring the economy
though instead of Kyle.

I'm calling Shenanigans!!!

Finally checked it out, and I have to agree with you. I thought Kyle's card was essentially the same basic concept as the Federal Reserve buying the debt. Had it been done right, Randy would have been the victor!

Too bad Randy was raiding houses to make sure people weren't spending money on things deemed unnecessary and surveillancing malls to make sure people weren't spending too much.

Very funny episode. Of course Trey and Matt missed the big picture, that your economy ultimately is based on fundamentals of food, energy, etc. I loved the "wheel of fortune" part.

Matt and Trey are both libertarians. What they were showing was both sides of the spectrum, the bubble economy and the so thrifty there is no progress economy. At the same time they poked fun at the government. I think they got it.

Here I go. You might be right there. At first I thought, "There's no way those guys are Libertarians!" So, I did the only thing modern people know how to do: I Googled it. To my surprise, I found this article, and it seems that people are catching on. As one commentor put it:

It seems to me that the message was that government isn't the solution. Had government thrown billions of the taxpayers' money back to the taxpayers the economy would be fine. Kyle did the smart thing, pay off consumer debt so consumers can consume again. These Libertarians are on to something ...

Did anyone see last week's episode? LOL.

"A black guy became president. He said he would change things- He didn't."

I LOVE this show.

while i agree with what all of you have said, I feel you have missed a much larger point. Kyle represents our children and our grandchildren; the debt does not magically disappear, it is simply transferred unfairly onto future generations who will be burdened with our debt. Kyle (future generations) assumed the debt of the adults so that they can continue to spend money on stupid consumer goods and the 'house of cards' economy can live for another few years. I highly doubt there will be a continuation for this episode, but it would entail ike, kyles little brother, getting another amex card and transferring kyles debt onto it.

I was rolling on the floor for the wheel of fortune chicken thing....brilliant

I liked Randy's speech better than Kyle's. (tho they both had problems) JMHO.

yes, I did too.

that's what I like about South Park, they make fun of both sides.

Kyle represents a "chill and don't worry too much" mentality
Randy represents "can't be too careful and saving won't hurt you" (paranoid survivalist) mentality

Not sure who was the platinum card holder to paid all the bills and didn't get credit? Taxpayer?

I love the line where they said "God (Economy) is omnipotent, saying he has only one son is mockery!"

It was a bad, bad show. They don`t know jack shit about economics. Randy was actually right, economy has its own fundamental laws, you can`t just piss all over them and expect there won`t be any consequences. But they took this reasonable view and placed it in the mouth of the biggest fool in the show and made fun of it by exaggarating it and even demonising it by comparing it to Herod.

And clearing off everyone`s debt wouldn`t have done anything to get more spending. The reason people can`t spend anymore is because they aren`t producing anything. Something clearing them off of debts isn`t going to change. Not to mention spending doesn`t drive the economy anyways! It makes you poorer, if things worked like that we could just have the gov. send everyone giant checks everytime they ran out of money and it`d all be booming.

Total shit. Making Jesus a proponent of supply side economics and talking about the need to spend and restoring consumer confidence. Throwing up material.

Libertarians my arse. No libertarian worth his salt would have supported Bush including his war on terror. But they did.

I've never seen anything where they supported Bush or his war on terror. I've only seen mocking of it all in general, the whole system. Have you ever seen Team America? The entire movie made fun of the war on terror and made a total mockery of it. There are also many South Park episodes that do the same.

And as far as this episode, I think you looked at it completely in the wrong way. If you want to clothe yourself in bed sheets and never make any technological progress be my guest. Randy's character was an extreme, you don't have to go into debt to live comfortably. As long as you are living within your means, which was not Randy's point at all. Randy's point was to live so far beneath your means that you actually regress as opposed to progress.

Well said!

Do any of you know what animation program is used by the South Park animation team? (in case I want to do something like that someday in my career)

From Wiki
Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator (and previously CorelDRAW) is used to design new characters and objects, which are then imported into and animated using Maya (PowerAnimator was used prior to the fifth season).[15][10] The use of PowerAnimator and Maya is an interesting choice as they are mainly used for 3D computer graphics; Parker and Stone compared it to "building a sandcastle with a bulldozer."[16] However, according to Director of Animation Eric Stough, PowerAnimator was chosen because it "has the best shadow and ray casting, so it looks like construction paper sitting on a camera stand."[10] Several other techniques are used to achieve the "amateur" look. Objects are moved across the screen manually and a "stepped" curve is applied to every second frame giving motion an "organic jumpy look".[17][18] The show is also animated at 24 frames per second and transferred to 30 frame/s video using the 3:2 pulldown process.[18]

Bullshit. They made fun of it, but in a way that made it clear they stil support it in the end. And the writter is an admitted Bush voter.

Yeah, they exagarrated it otherwise they wouldn`t be able to take a piss on it. As it would sound too reasonable. They needed something bad to act as a counterweight to their smartass consumer debt clearing suggestion.

I am an admitted bush voter. I do not support the war on terror.

In the end, it comes down to two guys. One of them will win. My guy won't. So, a vote for my guy, knowing he will not win, is a vote that could have went against the WORST of the two a-holes who get the BIG tickets.

I voted for that guy. I am not embarrassed by it at all. I am a Ron Paul supporter.

You should not generalize people...especially when you don't know them.

(spell check is your friend.)

The symbolism with Kyle is everyone pawning off their debts onto future generations to fix the economy... and then Obama takes the credit for the recovery..(not the abuse of children yet born)
