I'm looking into starting up some sort of revenue generating operation on the internet. I'm not looking for a get rich quick scheme. I'm just looking for something that will supplement my income from my regular job. I'm a competent programmer, can learn web design quickly, I'm at least an average writer, and I have a good knowledge of the internet and internet culture. I figure I should be able to put these things together and make a few hundred extra bucks a week somehow.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing and want to give me some advice?

I'm self-employed in the internet marketing / web design business.

Basically, in my opinion, you should look into CPA (cost per action), and PPC Advertising (Pay per click). Before i waste my time explaining these things, Are you familiar with the terms at all?

www.cashtactics.net is always a good place to start reading about this sort of thing, imo. If you look on the right sidebar there is a "Case Study", which is basically a small internet marketing course, to help you learn the basics.

Also, www.ewealth.com is a pretty good medium-sized forum, based on making money online. A lot of people there make pretty significant income and are willing to pass out free-advice.

So yea, hit me up with any questions ya got. I'm wouldn't call myself an expert but i've been doing this for some time now, i do have a grasp on it.

Thanks clay. This is just what I was looking for. I am familiar with PPC and CPA to some extent. I've done a little bit of research and I know the general overview of a couple different money making strategies. I guess I just don't know the details and don't really know exactly what is best suited to my skill set.

That's cool.

Are you a member of any cpa networks?

Here's some of my favorites. www.neverblueads.com www.azoogleads.com www.convert2media.com www.coprosper.com (australian)

Sounds like you're off to a decent start.

well the big money is in the marketing strategies, for sure. Lot's of people don't even have any web-skills at all, they just know where to buy good traffic.

Personally, i don't recommend starting your testing process with google adwords. It's too competitive, and you really have to know what the hell is up, in order to perform well there. A lot of beginners lose a lot of money fast, when they go the adwords route first. I usually start testing my campaigns with yahoo search, first and then expand them into other networks, once they're profitable.

The most important thing, is researching an understanding your niche. Understand how to give the people exactly what they are looking for. This Cash tactics video lays out a good overview of how to do Niche research effectively.

Honestly man, the internet is so untapped, even still. There's always the potential that you can snag a huge global market, before anyone else figures it out. :)

Happy hunting, and feel free to pm me any time on the subject :)

is there another way to make money these days???

I make my living online through affiliate marketing.

Basically I spend a few hundred a day on Pay Per Click advertising on Google and Yahoo, people click on the ads and when someone buys the product, I get a $20 or $30 commission. You can find these products on clickbank.com or cj.com or places like that.

Problem is, you need to invest a lot of time and a lot of money before you can get it rolling. I have a pretty good system, but I've tried to guide several friends and family members through it and they've all failed. Takes a lot of caution and persistence.

Frankly, I wouldn't recommend it. I'm getting by, but it's stressful. Sometimes I have an amazing month and celebrate, but the next month I could be wondering how I'll pay the bills and I work on the computer around the clock. I've maintained things for 4 years, but it takes a lot of self-motivation and sometimes I hate it. In fact, after my wife gets her doctorate and starts working, I'm going back to school and getting my Master's.

Are you getting good ROI %?

I think the key is, to invest as much time in education as possible. Do not be in a rush to spend money on something you do not understand, because there is loads of free information out there.

I agree it can be stressful at times, and you want to be efficient, more than you want to be cautious. Being cautious implies fear. ;) But if you do if you manage to hit that right market, the payoff is like no other.

I recommend it for certain people, for sure, but others no.

For example, i could not teach someone like my mom how to do what i do but, i might be able to teach some of my friends. I've helped quite a few friends into this field, and some of them do this full time now as well. I get 2% on everything they make :D

Have you ever joined a good cpa network, besides CJ? You should really consider it, if not. Leads are easier to generate than clickbank sales, for sure, and there's dozens of good CPA networks out there.

Cool man, you've been doing this a bit longer than i have, i'm around the 3 year mark. I've often thought about going back to school just to learn some stuff. What are you going to Master in?

That is a very good idea. I should have done that, maybe I would have helped them more. :)

I've made some money from linkshare.com and shareasale.com, but not much. It's a lot easier to promote sites that are already somewhat popular. What cpa networks do you use?

English Literature. I'm a book worm and love the classics. I think I'd like to teach them.

I have been studying this site and am working on applying their techniques. They talk a lot about freedom and I like what they are saying and I think I can follow their plan.

I have tried affiliate marketing and did not do too well with it so I am moving on.

Demand Studios is better than Elance as a steady writing job, from what I hear. I make decent money at DS, it's worth it to look into. They pay $15 for short articles like "how to buy an MP3 player online" or "how to change struts in a Chevy XXX" which you can crank out quickly once you get good. They supply content to eHow so the topics are endless. I write about 5-7 per day, they pay via Paypal every week.

It definitely gives you a little more reason to help someone

I've tried linkshare and shareasale as well, and for some reason i never had much success with them, i couldn't tell you why.

the main networks i work with are. www.azoogleads.com www.neverblueads.com www.coprosper.com(australian) and www.convert2media.com

I would easily recommend them all. Neverblue and azoogle even have iphone apps to track your conversions and clicks.

Nice man

Just out of curiosity,

The https://www.demandstudios.com/application.html?role=Writer application is looking for a resume. I have nothing in my resume that would be relevant to a writing job.

Did you have this problem? If not what would you suggest?
