Anyone else feel like crying?

I've followed politics since I was 11 years old (1984). This is the first time I haven't really cared about the presidential race. I remember 1992 and this year is a lot like that year. I was really upset then but two years later everything was different. It's funny, the more time goes by, and the more I learn about politics the more apathetic I get. I thought it was supposed to be the other way around.

Allow yourself to cry, draw close to family, take a break and get back to work.
Yeah, people should let out their emotions, take a nap, then get back to grassrootin'.

Let it out now or else you'll just become bitter.

I feel happy to see the first black president even though I don't agree with him or his party.

He is young however and made an effort after mentioning Lincoln and the Republican platform as American to reach out to conservatives saying something along the lines of:

Commendable, hopefully not just words. I am reminded of this thread I posted in May.

All this handwringing for what? Not you, j, but the tenor of this thread. I agree here with j. It took upward of 40 years to get a black president. It's fuckin' awesome! Yeah, I don't agree with him much either but it took blacks 40 years to get him. And it wasn't just blacks that voted him in. This was the will of the people moving on the face of the earth in a mass rejection of Bush and the neo=cons. Think of it like this. did you like Nixon? Well this is Bobby Kennedy beating Nixon. It took my generation 40 years to accomplish this an you fucks want to go desparage this achievement? You don't know shit.

You think it's the same ol same ol. Wrong. This is reason defeats warmongering. Baby steps. How do we move away from totalitarianism? Again baby steps. Instead of wallowing, get a plan. Get a party! It sure ain't the discredited GOP. That is dead. Stick a knife in it! Obama is going to be awesome. But you don't have to believe me. I'm not trying to change your mind. I'm saying YOU need to become mainstream, because until then you are just a weenie Trekker. A Matrix-dwelling SciFi Channel dweeb that believes in every conspiracy theory and kicking your beautiful but normal girlfriend out of bed because she didn't vote the way you told her (see that other thread, OMG).

Grow up, first. Get back to us when you can keep your opinion to yourself, and can actually contribute to society without opening your dumbass mouth for a day. And I mean this in the nicest possible way.

(And this is not meant for jcarcinogen)

Oh, yeah, if you want to employ words? Edumacate some peoples on what Lincoln really was: a totalitarian tyrant. Don't do it in a racist way though. But learn to artfully show that he was not a great "emancipator". And (like Obama so unfortunately claims) was for individual freedom. Yikes! I mean, I like Barry but ... yikes!

You don't know shit.
... Stick a knife in it! Obama is going to be awesome. .... I'm saying YOU need to become mainstream, because until then you are just a weenie Trekker.

Awesome in what regard?

He knows how to speak for one thing. He is diplomatic. He talks tough enough so that nobody will try shit. I can't stress enough ... after 8 years of Bush ... Obama knows how to speak for one thing!

Stop appeasing. Name one policy that will be different from Bush? Name one way in which your life will change?

Tonight we ushered in even less freedom and more socialism, and you are cheering this. Sad.

Well only time will tell. I'm a libertarian so of course I don't like his policy but he is a smart guy (Constitutional law expert) and potentially intellectual and patriotic enough to, like JFK, try to be a president for the people. Sure he had to play the game to get elected but who knows, the guy was humble enough to ask for help on being a fair president to the people that didn't vote for him.

My fear is now that Pelosi and Clinton rule both Houses so overwhelmingly that Obama may have to be the guy that takes the middle road. Ironic. Doesn't matter, they create the laws, budgets, and can now override a veto.

Patriot Act

Feingold conceded that public disappointment following gains for Democrats in the 2006 elections was understandable, but said that a Democratic president, "in particular, Barack Obama, should allow us to greatly change this mistake."

"Barack Obama believes in the Constitution," he continued. "He's a constitutional scholar. I believe that he will have a better chance to look at these powers that have been given to the executive branch, [even though] he'll be running the executive branch.

I think he will understand and help take the lead in fixing some of the worst provisions."

"I do think that people have a right to be disappointed," he went on, "but they also have a right to hope for change--on this issue, in particular--starting in January."

Obama vows to reverse executive orders that 'trample on liberty'

WASHINGTON - Barack Obama told House Democrats on Tuesday that as president he would order his attorney general to scour White House executive orders and expunge any that "trample on liberty," several lawmakers said.

Presidents, as head of the executive branch of government, issue such orders to direct operations of executive branch agencies, like the Justice Department and the CIA. For example, President Bush used an executive order last year to breathe new life into the CIA's controversial terror interrogation program that allowed harsh questioning of suspects.

Obama "talked about how his attorney general is to review every executive order and immediately eliminate those that trample on liberty," said Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y.

"He indicated there would be a review in his administration," said Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., the House majority whip.

Wtf were you expecting?

Hope is for people who would kill themselves without God or willful ignorance (don't touch that, atheists/agnostics!).

Go watch a movie. Bake a Jewish Apple Cake (Mmm...), whistle "Sleigh Ride". Life is spiffy.

Yeah, it was expected... we've known Obama or McCain for quite some time... doesn't make it any easier though :(

In terms of Hope?

Please refute the logic presented in 8.08 -> 9.30 :p

And movies? Here's a list... ;)
