Any other '87/1988ers really happy to have so many newbies here?

This is why I try to temper som of the over enthusiasm. It is a hell of a crash when you fall and leaves you burned out. You missed out on a lot of fun electing Rand.

I know I did , I did visit the forums though and left a couple of post here and there and even watched a streamed debate, but I was nowhere near as involved as I was before... That will not happen anymore though, there a lot of liberty candidates to support...

I was barely out of diapers in 87/88 haha, but ive been a liberty minded person since 02/03 at which time I also discovered RP as the lone liberty candidate who no one pays attention to but is fighting the good fight.

In 07 when I heard he was running it was a nice story, when I saw he was raising money I started to follow his candidacy more and when I found this forum I was ecstatic to see so many like minded people supporting RP. After the money bombs in 08 I got my hopes up only to get dissapointed and I basically took 2 years off the forum. It was surprising to see Rand win in 2010.

To see that RP had a real shot at winning Iowa was surreal, the fact that he has gotten over 20% in so many states is indicative of how much the movement has grown. I wont say I am dissapointed this time around but I will stil donate and hope RP goes all the way to the convention where he can drop some truth bombs and those fucking neocons. When we flood the convention with our NOBP t-shirts they will see the massive vote turnout they are missing out on :)

So... the movement must continue today we have more liberty minded people in Congress and Senate than we have had in 30+ years, the gains we have made are incredible and we will continue to do so, so keep on supporting Rp and liberty candidates. The movement must go on!!!

Hey tsetse! I sort of did the same thing. From 2009 to 2011 I checked in periodically and started some dumb arguments about metaphysics or something, but I basically disengaged, and I TOO was surprised that Rand won.

I remember getting 2% of the vote in some states last cycle.

The crushing defeat that was 2008 was a bit too much for my heart to bare, especially when we put in ALL that effort in Alaska to get Dr. Paul JUST ONE WIN.

This time, I'm not even IN Alaska, but I saw the supporters up there struggling and I've been in touch. They did a lot better than we did in 2008, but they still couldn't win the damn vote, and it's just as crushing. Still, I think the conventions are going to be different. Last time at the convention we raised hell and fought the establishment tooth and nail. We had 30% of the delegates to state. We always felt we were just a few delegates shy of complete victory.

This time, I think there might be complete victory.

Thanks! I'm a mid-born son of liberty :D. I became a supporter November of 2010 (not during the 08 run, but well before he even declared his candidacy for 2012). I had a Ron Paul 2012 yard sign up in March of 2011 before he even declared his candidacy and I prayed he would run. :)

Back in '88, my world didn't extend far beyond the playpen gate, and I couldn't flap my gums about liberty because there was always a pacifier in my mouth.

I sure am glad the '88ers were out there though, and that they're still with us today. Frankly, I marvel at the very idea that you guys were even able to find out about him back then. I know there was CNN, but there was no Internet. Before the Internet, I imagine you'd have to be extremely patient and resourceful to find information on a non-major party candidate. Heck, even if Ron had run GOP back then, I don't think he would have made the rounds on cable news.

ABC's was the first one.

Little fun fact: In May of 2007, I made a submission to reddit that ABC had left him off the post debate poll, even though reddit liked a video that was up of the debate performance. Things snowballed very rapidly, and it became the #1 link that day, with people calling ABC TV,

5 years later and you forget that the first debate of the year in May 2007 was MSNBC? Next was the famous Giuliani Fox debate. ABC wasn't until way later.

I was 16 in 88. Couldn't vote. I actually do remember Ron from back then, but only from his appearance on the Morton Downey Jr. show. I used to watch it back then.

Found the forums in 2007 but I'd be happier if, and wish, there was a lot more.

Epic thread is epic.

I want to know who has been with Dr. Paul all this time.

Raising my hand...

Those were the days of my own youth. I remember the hard-fought battle between RP and Russell Means for the LP nomination. Back when, less than 8 years from Ed Clark's never-bettered Libertarian presidential results, I thought a third party could actually have a (slim) chance.

I remember that was tough, especially since his name recognition, fundrasing and popularity grew we though it would show in the elections... But it was not to be.. I really hope to see him at the convention even if he doesnt win...

I remember those debates! It almost felt as if my team was going to play in the super bowl I was anticipating how people would react to RP's ideas!

Yeah the first 2 debates was before I knew that the media blackout was going to take place.
I actually thought Ron Paul would stand out and he would be all the media would be able to talk about.

In other news, why are we calling it 87/88? What ANYTHING going on in 1987?

My first donation to a political candidate was $500 for Ron Paul in 87/88.Things are looking up.

I started following the Dr in 1999 when I woke up to reality for the first time. I was ecstatic to find out he was running for President in 08. Been preaching about him since the early 2000s and have converted many people over.
