With all the money going to save McConnell from almost certain defeat, Cornyn might not be able to prevent a runoff. Which means any Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin backed conservative (even if not a Paul-lover) has a small chance.
Cornyn has fairly high ratings from most major conservative organisations. Cruz obviously won't back a primary challenge to an incumbent Senator in his own state and Palin and DeMint won't back it if it's Cornyn being primaried.
Cornyn's scores:
Club for Growth - 91% 2011, 88% lifetime
American Conservative Union - 90% 2011
John Birch Society - 83% (votes 1-40) - he beats Coburn
I don't know why people think primarying every guy we don't like is effective. It is not. I think a lot of you overestimate the power of the liberty movement. We have never won a race without mainstream conservative support and we will definitely not get that support if we primary Cornyn. It is extremely difficult, very expensive and as a result almost impossible, to primary out an incumbent Senator, unless it's a very liberal Republican like Lugar or Bennett. Cornyn is not short of money, is fairly popular and has very high name recognition. At least with the Chambliss and Graham races we will have the support of mainstream conservatives and the wealthy organizations that represent them.
