Could there soon be a third member of the libertarian Paul family in Congress?

Robert Paul, a doctor who lives in Fort Worth, is saying maybe, telling a newspaper that he has “thought about running” for the seat representing Texas in the Senate that is being vacated by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who is not running for reelection.

One of Rep. Ron Paul’s (R-Texas) five children, Robert would become the second Paul offspring to run for Congress, joining brother Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who was elected last year.

In an interview with the Star-Telegram published Thursday, Robert Paul acknowledged that he is considering a bid but hasn’t decided whether to run. “I am very happy as a physician,” he said.

But, he said, concerns about federal spending could draw him into the race. “ have a lot of concern about the debt,” he said. Internet speculation that the younger Texas Paul might run for Senate began spreading soon after Hutchison announced that she would not seek another term. He is set to speak at the University of North Texas next Thursday.

Rep. Ron Paul’s communications director, Rachel Mills, told POLITICO that the elder Paul “hasn’t heard anything about it,” referring to his son’s possible run.

Unlike others thinking about running for the Senate seat, though, Paul hasn’t started fundraising. Two Republican contenders have raised more than $1 million each, and two others have raked in more than $500,000.

I'm for it, but I understood he didn't want to. I'll sign up for it, though. I think that article is kinda old, and later he said he didn't want to, which is when people started to get behind cruz etc

edit, I like the logo you made for him!

I didn't make it, just sharing it because it would be cool to have another Paul out there.

It appears John Cornyn's seat is up for 2014. If there is anytime to do it, I guess its now!

absolutely!

Or if not Robert, maybe one of his doctor daughters? Not sure if they live in Texas. Otherwise, Medina? Whatever, we need to come up with someone. I'm assuming Ron doesn't want it.

That article is nearly a year old, so why post it? Also, Robert said he really enjoys being a doctor and being with his family.

I think we need to find out if Robert is actually interested, or if this is a left over from the 2011 scuttlebut.

If Cornyn's retiring, he should run. Cornyn is too difficult to primary.

The only good primary chances we have are Lindsey Graham and Saxby Chambliss, as they are widely thought of as liberal Republicans and so we'll have heavy support from groups like the Club for Growth.

Medina and Addison would make good candidates with their established views. Who knows where Robert falls on the issues.

I don't think Robert wants to run, to be honest, nothing new has been said in this thread, and the OP is an old story. I'd love to have Medina run for something she could win. I wanted her to run for Ron's seat. If she ran I'd support her. You might know her chances against Cornyn better than I would. He isn't the worst of all senators, though not one of us. I'd like her to WIN something.

Word is Medina wants to run for Comptroller. Land Comm Jerry Patterson, who has been very friendly, is running against LG David Dewhurst. Primarying Cornyn is a deathwish in my view. If it were an open seat or a really tarnished incumbent, maybe you would have a chance. But none of those apply.

You know, there are a lot more people on this thread shooting down this idea than working with it. I include myself to some extent. But if people quit bumping this by shooting it down it would be off the page by now. Also, it seems to me if you don't like the idea you could just ignore it. Wasn't the idea that people shouldn't try to stop others from doing something just because they don't want to themselves?

We have one of the dumbest voter bases here in Texas. People like Cornyn, Bush, Perry, and Hutchison can openly lie to us and we'll re-elect them again and again. We love their lies and we're too stupid to pay attention to what they actually do.

With all the money going to save McConnell from almost certain defeat, Cornyn might not be able to prevent a runoff. Which means any Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin backed conservative (even if not a Paul-lover) has a small chance.
