"and then there were 50" Who is with me?

Mr. Sanders also feels the problem of illegal immigration and the burden it places on our country must be addressed, but he points out that immigrants have always had a role to play in our country. “I welcome immigrants who desire to improve both their own lives and the prosperity of this nation, but they must do so in accordance with our laws,” he says. While he opposes using the military to patrol our borders with Mexico, Sanders strongly advocates increasing the size and training of our Border Patrol to curb illegal immigration. With regards to the use of tax dollars for illegal immigrants, Sanders says, “Our school systems should not be required to educate people who are here illegally. Our hospitals should not be required to provide services, except in cases of emergency, to illegal immigrants at the expense of American citizens and immigrants who have come here legally. This charity to illegals must stop now before it completely drains our resources.”

You'll find it in the "Brent's story" section of joinsanders.com

Thank you for finding that for me... in that context...
I don't believe illegals should get any free medical care... but if anyone is brought into the ER with near-fatal wounds... gunshot to the head... etc. I don't want the ER trying to figure out if the person is legal or not before they treat someone... such a government mandate could even delay treatment for people like yourself.
So that is the extreme exception and should not be construed as meaning I think illegals should get free medical care.... does that make sense now?

Dilios: And so my king died, and my brothers died; barely a year ago. Long I pondered my king's cryptic talk of victory. But time has proven him wise, for from free Greek to free Greek, the word was spread that bold Leonidas and his 300, so far from home, laid down their lives. Not just for Sparta, but for all Greece and the promise this country holds.
Now, here on this ragged patch of earth called Plateaea, Xerxes's hordes face obliteration!

Just there the barbarians huddle, sheer terror gripping tight their hearts with icy fingers... knowing full well what merciless horrors they suffered at the swords and spears of 300. Yet they stare now across the plain at *10,000* Spartans commanding *30,000* free Greeks! HA-OOH!

The enemy outnumber us a paltry three-to-one, good odds for any Greek. This day we rescue a world from mysticism and tyranny and usher in a world brighter than anything we can imagine.

+1

Hospitals as private organizations routinely check for insurance coverage. If an illegal has insurance should they get treated? If a freeborn does not have insurance do they get treated? I think you may agree the government should not be prohibiting medical care or enforcing medical care and that would keep them out of the hospitals altogether. That would be consistent with allowing the free market to operate as it sees fit.

I know of a woman in labor who was refused medical service and the baby was born in the waiting room and subsequently died. Should the government demand emergency medical treatment for anyone ever?

Just throwing some ideas out there for you to hone your position on, thanks.

If an illegal can pay for services, why should a business not take there money?
I can't find a reason to say to any private business you can't take someone's money.
When it comes to medical treatment, and let me rephrase that... extreme medical/ life or death emergencies... hospitals should treat first, verify later.
I don't think a federal mandate requiring all hospitals to adopt this policy is necesary.
I believe in humanity enough to know that if government gets out of the way... private charity will take over.
Can't afford the private hospital, try the Methodist hospital, or the Baptist hospital, or the Catholic Hospital, or the local Goodwill hospital etc.

Did you know if you can't afford medication, most private companies offer programs for you to get your medicine anyway? http://www.pparx.com

I don't see the federal government role as having anything to do with the above topics. The federal government shouldn't be in the business of regulate hospitals. That is up to the states and the people of the states.

Now i can talk about my personal feelings on the subject, but knowing that I respect the above statement on federalism, all these other questions just become my personal feelings.

Does anyone have a list of all 50 candidates? I know of a few, including Sanders. I really think we should be supporting all of them. We need a network that connects all of these candidates so we can easily follow candidates in the RP tradition.

I think we should provide emergency health care for everyone. HOWEVER, just because you can't check legal status checking them in doesn't mean you can't check it while they are getting treated. I don't think we should kick any seriously injured/dying person to the curb because they are illegal. But, I think that should be their last hospital trip. It should be the equivelant of turning yourself over to ICE once you are on your feet again.

We have a problem in this area because the emergency room cannot deny treatment. From what I've heard, many of the doctors are denying treatment at their offices, etc because of no insurance and inability to pay. But since they can't be turned away from the emergency room, they use it as a doctors office and can't pay. Everytime I go in there it's filled with illegal families, nobody appearing even remotely like they are on the verge of death.

Life saving treatment is the sole call of the ER staff and the golden hour rule. NO paper is shuffled at that time. After the emergengy is over, then the paperwork and who owes what is sorted out.

First, do no harm.

I would define emergency as life or limb threatening. Just my personal thoughts.

While I believe it goes against humanity to deny that person treatment, I am thoroughly opposed to anything other than life or limb threatening.

The Hippocratic oath would seem to require any doctor to treat a real emergency. Otherwise would he not be in opposition to that oath?

I agree, but how do you stop nonpaying illegals from using it as a 24/7 free clinic? Here, they bring kids to the emergency room for colds and the like, knowing they cannot be turned away because they cannot pay. It's like a free clinic.

I'm not in health care, so I don't have the answer. However, it's not hard for someone to spend an hour or so around our ER waiting room and see the problem.

Alexmerced is making good headway in this area, PM him and see what he has cooking...

at this point in time there are about 20 sites vying for top spot as the one stop shop for our grassroots to find all our candidates.

I'm going ahead with my own moneybomb because my foundation is already set, I already have a large organization on the ground ready to go(ron paul meet-ups now are ready to campaign for me)

I am hoping to be the model by which all our candidates can be successful, but that is also my fear... we get this moneybomb together and it duds.
Kind of takes the air out of the ballon and would make us question if we really can do this.... that is why you will get tired of reading my post daily about my moneybomb.
It has to be a success. I need everyone to spread the word.. myspace, facebook etc. We have to do this...so that our members know that there are enough of us with enough resolve to truly keep this movement alive.
It is our test... and I'm setting it out before us.

Everything I am developing right now, can be retooled for all our future candidates. We are working on the model for success.
This is why everyone reading this right now is so important. Without you... I'm just another "kook" in a failed revolution that will be discarded by the local media etc.
But with a warchest and a campaign manager like Lee Fletcher, I'm the upset special of the year.

I'm pumped.... I think we can do this....
We raised 6 million in one day for Ron Paul, we could fund 24 congressional campaigns with that much money. We can do this!

I will have banners like this:

<a href="http://www.joinsanders.com/index.html"><img src="http://billakanodoodahs.com/wp-content/uploads/brentsanders2.png"/></a>

that can be put up on all the networking sites and blog sites, and whn the moneybomb banners are ready, you won't need to do anything, the banner will update itself. Thanks to forum member Bill AKA NoDoodahs for the help!

I can commit to at least $25 on that day. There are some other congressional campaigns I am supporting too, so I am spread a little thin.

I feel confident that the people running the ER can determine emergency from non-emergency. If federal policies were out of the way.. I don't see why the ER could tell someone their "cold" or "upset" stomach should be taken care of at another facility that in non emergency.
But of course, I'm talking about letting the hospitals decide.
I have to be careful, I don't want you to think my personal feelings are the same as my governmental policies. I want the federal government out of the business of regulating anything medical.
We should have 50 competing systems between the 50 states to find in a free market of ideas which policies work best for which states.
No more one rule for all.

Any donation amount will help!
I'm trying to give everyone advanced notice so that they can start saving their pennies.
Circle March 3rd.
It shouldn't take that many people donating to raise $300,000.

Here is a vague budget i'm looking at for my campaign, this is based off of my previous run in 2006 along with a schedule of how the organization needs to flow:

First(early feb.)- settling a date. March 3rd is ok?

Second(mid to late feb), need promotion and pushers for that date on a daily basis on every main ron paul site. everyone needs to know about it... start today.

Third(march3rd), raise the funds.

Fourth(march) put together the committee, campaign manager, treasurer, vice-chair, communications director, at least one office in the district that is visible. begin planning.
(I already have most of the plans for these areas, but i can't offer the spots until funds are available)

Fifth(april), production of new commercials, new radio ads, booking of air time, setting up future local fundraisiers(if i raise $300,000 online i already have commitments for large donors to join in the funding- in their eyes i need to prove my organization)

Sixth- May-Sept. start press releases, schedule public appearances, visit civic groups, etc.

October, win the primary

November win the election.

December move to DC and bring all of you with me.

I'd come up with a mock budget, but the numbers could easily change:
treasurer and campaign manager may take up $75,000
Commercial productions should be less than $10,000.
Office rentals one or two: $10,000 to $20,000
Air Time: $150,000- $200,000
Transpotation, fuel, misc $5000

This budget covering all 2008 expenses. Air time buys being the larger chunk. My district cover 1/4 the state and two major cities.

I've been keeping low key so we could all focus on Ron Paul, but I think its time we take this message even further and I'm starting to get a lot of support from all the forums.

Question is.... will you rally around me too?

There is hope... and our grassroots online will play a big part in the reclamation of congress.

I hope we keep this message alive. I am carrying the flag forward. Who's with me?

-Brent

I'm with you. Just don't forget about us little people when you get in ;)

Oh, and I know several people in LA. I'll mention you to them, if you have some good lit on your stances, I'll email it to them.

By the way, they're mostly Democrats, so whatever you have that would be geared toward that would be great.
