They have a system called "positive train control" which is supposed to give automatic control over a train not doing what it should.

A throttle governor and Dead Man Switch are a Positive Train Control .

A central computer is not.

It was operator error or serious mechanical malfunction that had a train at 81 mph... long before the corner that should have been taken at 30.

Bad spot and bad time to be closed. They brought their A-Team.
