Amsterdam To Ban Tourists From Pot Cafes *

Damn it! I just bought non-refundable tickets too!

Been to Amsterdam before. Won't be going back.

Way to kill your tourist industry...genius.

*And of course, this will soon be posted in another thread, in "General Politics" by somebody too stoned or too stupid to search for "Amsterdam" before sharing their discovery.

Do I detect a sense of silliness about having 5 threads on the same news posted in at least two different forums on the board?

Welcome to Colorado Tourists:) but we do not have hookers just escorts;) but if you want a hooker type go to colfax ave!

Does the government there think all those shaggy foreign backpackers are really going through customs and airport rape gauntlets just to snap photos of tulips and take clogging lessons?

This is going to KILL tourism in the area deader than a bag 'o' rocks.

Anybody suspect the strong arm of the UN at work here?

Somebody should tell Ireland that I've just figured out how to fix their economy.

Damn; id never managed to get there yet; guess theirs no point now. :( bastards

Apparently, Amsterdam city council opposes this measure. However, Parliament supports it.

This is going to be an interesting experiment, because they have to be cutting off a major revenue stream. Speaking personally, I put Amsterdam on my 4-city European trip in part because of the liberal drug policy - I wanted the exper.

I came away from my trip loving the city for all kinds of other reasons - the tourist drug industry is low on the list of why Amsterdam is fantastic. However, if not for the liberal drug policy, I probably would not have put Amsterdam on my list to visit in the first place.

I suspect that very soon there will either be a "look the other way" policy, or a full repeal. But maybe not.

"nuisance and criminality" - Um, what nuisance and criminality? The Coffee shops were established to keep things in the open and legal and basically in one area so out of site - Just like the Red Light District. That keeps down criminal activity. What these idiots have done is drive it underground, so they are going to get exactly what they think they are eliminating.

Hmmm I wonder what side of the line a "temporary resident" falls on that Adult citizen / tourist line? Just like here, a lot of people living in Holland are not citizens.

That was dumb... everyone knows that Germany is all about the party scene. I guess they don't think they need anymore tourism profits.

The fast majority of the nuisance caused by drug abuse in the netherlands is caused by drug tourist.
At the borders this is especially bad.
I believe the reason for this is:
a) in Holland there is a lot of information available on how to use drugs responsible, information that is not available to tourist.
b) most tourist are only in Holland for a only couple of days and they want to use as much drugs as possible while dutch people have more then enough time.

the plan is the first introduce the "wiet pas" in coffee shops at the border and then see how it goes.

personally i am against this plan as you invade peoples privacy(you can no longer go to a coffee shop anonymously).
and you deny foreigners their freedom, if weed is bad for them or not shouldn't be an issue at all, i believe that in a free country you can make your own decisions even if they are really bad or destructive.

yes i am from Amsterdam myself.
