...............but it has to be kept in mind that Barr has some rather nefarious characters working for him, starting with campaign maestro Russ Verney, who made his name as a top adviser to Ross Perot, but who is also well known to some of us for helping to turn the Reform Party into a radioactive environment for Pat Buchanan in 2000. Verney, who thinks George W. Bush “showed incredible leadership” by standing atop a firetruck on 9/11, is not known to be a libertarian, big “L” or small. He’s a political mercenary who, at best, utterly misunderstood how a Libertarian nominee should relate to libertarian voters. And at worst … well, let’s put it this way: the Libertarian Party won’t be the first party Verney has wrecked.

It would be ashame if Barr implodes like this mentions because after Ron the groundwork and message has been laid for the LP to have their best election ever. Looks like Bob has screwed himself

Oh, it provides me an article to read about Buchanan's race in 2000! I love reading this type of stuff!

Why do we care what statist conservatives think? Conservatives are traditionally reactionary while the classical liberals were revolutionary. That's why you hear cons talk of this "morality" and traditional mumbo jumbo, it's all statist bs to break up the individualism.

"Barr Implodes"

Self-serving baloney.

So maybe we should start a pool. If Baldwin gets more votes than Barr the pool goes to the Constitution Party. If Barr gets more votes than Baldwin the pool goes to the Libertarian Party.

We could set it up on Pledgebank as "I will give $25 to the Constitution Party if Baldwin gets more votes than Barr in the 2008 election, and I will give $25 to the Libertarian Party if Barr gets more votes than Baldwin in the same election."

pure democracy is tyranny-any disciple of RP should know that. Think for yourself instead of depending on the popular vote. :D I applaud your supporting 3rd parties, though. :)

And what would you have said 6 months ago if a member of the GOP had said. "I'll bet you a thousand dollars that McCain gets more votes than Ron Paul in the primary?" You would not have taken that bet in a million years, but it would not have dissuaded you that you were doing the right thing for America. (to support RP)

So all this trash talk that Barr will get more votes, therefore he is the better candidate is rubbish. If you are going to follow that reasoning to it's conclusion then vote for Obama or McCain.

I could also say that the MSM gave a lot more coverage to Barr than Baldwin (anything is greater than 0, right?) So what purpose is Barr serving that Baldwin isn't? It seems like he is doing a decent job of destroying the LP, ever consider he might be a mole?

The Liberty movement will be measured by the sum of the Baldwin and Barr votes. This will be the potential baseline for the candidate who can unite these forces in 2012. The pushing of votes between Barr and Baldwin is a waste. The goal is to drive up the totals of both. That is the intent of the proposed pool. At this juncture any candidate who speaks of small government is better than a Republicrat. I'm neither anti-Baldwin or anti-Barr.

Barr is getting much more national airtime for small government than Baldwin. It will be useful to see if that translates into votes.

Barr did implode his campaign. My guess is he will end up with half the votes he would have gotten if his campaign didn't do what it did. He may still get more votes than Baldwin since his party is more well known and he has better ballot access but blowing away half of your support is imploded your campaign in my book. If Ron Paul hadn't run he wouldn't have been on TV even once. Period. They only are looking at him because of the association of Ron Paul and the LP. All he had to do is not piss people off and it would have been the best year ever for the LP. Maybe it still will be but it wont be as great as it could have been. And I am not biased against Barr. I am in CA and will vote for Barr anyway since Baldwin isn't on the ballot. I like the LP more than the CP and I think voting in this election for a third party is like voting for the party you like more not the candidate you want more because neither one will win so you might as well vote for who you want to win the next time.

The "statist conservative" who wrote that piece works for Ron Paul, you know. :)

It should also be noted that AmConMag endorsed Ron Paul during the primaries.
