Well TX comptroller susan combs finally screwed amazon.com

Amazon.com will start collecting sales taxes on all online purchases made in Texas beginning July 1 under an agreement that settles a dispute with the state......She said Texas loses perhaps $600 million a year in potential revenue to Internet sales from all sources. The deal announced Friday, Combs said, will "level the playing field" with the Web's biggest retailer.....

I give props to amazon, they closed a contract dallas distribution center back in 2010 over this (Combs sent them a back taxes bill for $250 million). But you know dracula combs still wanted her $$$ and got her way. Unfortunate the free market will suffer to prop up the state.

...Combs also said consumers who will start paying more for Amazon products come July 1 should keep in mind that this change was designed to help their "friends and neighbors" who own businesses and "show up at the football games on Friday night."

oh yeah and you should thank her for it

I love Amazon for that. It's pretty easy to dodge income tax on gift money if you receive it as Amazon gift cards as well.

Pretty soon, if you buy from a major online company, you will need to be in a state without a general sales tax to not have to pay sales tax. Heck, AK doesn't have a general sales tax but it has local sales taxes, people might even be charged that eventually. You still have DE, NH, OR and MT.

I shop at Amazon solely because it's cheaper than actually leaving my house. Free shipping + no sales tax. Why even bother shopping at any other retailer? Seriously?

rather pay the sales tax than an illegal income tax.

Technically, the income tax is not illegal. Rather immoral and inhumane. I thought TX was one of the states that did not have an income tax? If so, don't confuse a federal income tax with a state going after sales taxes. One does not have anything to do with the other being the governments are two different entities.

This is TX in desperation. I guess they have to find a way to pay for the $100K college education to all the illegals they have promised. Now Amazon and their customers must suffer. Lick the black boots Texans...

Slavery was ALWAYS illegal, contrary to what judges and legislatures stated at the time.
Barring women from voting was ALWAYS illegal, contrary to what judges and legislatures stated at the time
The income tax IS and ALWAYS will be illegal, contrary to what judges and legislatures state at this current time.

Correct, no state income tax in Texas.

I wonder if she knows that TX primaries are coming up soon. Making things I buy more expensive is an odd way to win my support.
