Amash denounces armed protests in Michigan

I would say the people here who are ungrateful for the lockdown protests are probably the most useless people on the entire planet.

"I like liberty, but I don't like when people want liberty. I don't actually like gaining more liberty, I just like complaining that things aren't perfect. I just want to be curmudgeon."

Thread winner.

The lockdowns are justified, generally, but even if they weren't, the point is that the "tyranny" they entail is trivial compared to the everyday tyranny these same people endorse. When I see the MAGA-flag wavers protesting the tyranny of not being able to play in the McDonald's ball pit temporarily, I see bolsheviks complaining about dog licensing fees: i.e. farce. And, what the protests are really about, by and large, is of course partisanship. Rs and Ds are both trying to make political hay. If Trump had taken a pro-lockdwon stance, you'd be singing a different tune.

Indeed

And let me just add for the record, I'm not saying that everyone who opposes the lockdown is as I described. There's a legitimate debate to be had and libertarians fall on both sides. But the bulk of the protesting or general griping is by people who have no standing to complain about tyranny, given that they generally endorse it.

But you and Brian agreed that they are ignorant. So they know not what they endorse.

This is true, and why it's hard to even get mad at these people anymore; shrugging or laughing seems more appropriate.

If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. And when you aren't prepared for the stab in the back, you blame the people who warned you.

By the way, there once was another pair of men on opposite sides of that question.

'It ain't what we don't know that hurts us, it's what we "know" that ain't so.'--Will Rogers

'Come on, now, Henry. You know that nobody with any sense ever took any of my gags seriously.'--Will Rogers

'They are taken seriously by nobody except half-wits. In other words, by approximately eighty-five percent of the voting population!'--H.L. Mencken

Poooooff...

If you had any credibility with any serious posters here, it's gone.

I can understand why ancaps don't like the restrictions; theirs at least is a consistent position.

And I can understand why some minarchists disapprove; they're pragmatists, but not all pragmatists agree on what is pragmatic.

Your position (if it's to be taken seriously, as not as mere Trump-fellating) is much harder to understand. You have no problem with the state ordering businesses not to hire foreigners, in order to push up wages, or to keep out cultures you dislike, or whatever your current rationale may be, but you can't see the logic of ordering businesses to close to prevent people from killing one another (which, contra subsidizing wages, etc, is a goal that's actually consistent with libertarianism, and so can serve to justify policies which would otherwise be unjustified).

That is not my position, nice try.

ACTUALLY, I'D MUCH RATHER SEE PEOPLE STOP RELYING ON STUPID AND CORRUPT POLITICIANS SITTING IN CUSHY OFFICES TO DO THINGS AND JUST START ACTING LIKE GROWN MEN AND WOMEN THAT DON'T NEED PERMISSION TO EARN A LIVING AND WELL, LIVE. THAT IS EXERCISING LIBERTY, NOT PROTESTING STATE HOUSES! PROTESTING STATE HOUSES LEGITIMIZES THAT THE HANDFUL OF PEOPLE INSIDE CONTROL THE PROTESTORS VERY EXISTENCE! "PLEASE SIR, MR. $2000 SUIT-WEARING MAN, MAY I FEED MY FAMILY?" STOP IT! WHETHER YOU HAVE A NAZI SIGN OR A GUN MATTERS NOT. YOU ARE STILL TELLING THEM THAT THEY HAVE POWER OVER YOU TO DECIDE WHETHER YOU CAN OR CAN NOT PROVIDE FOR YOUR PEOPLE. RULED IN MIND AND ACTION BY WORDS ON PAPER FROM A HANDFUL OF RANDOM ASSHOLES THAT BOUGHT THEIR WAY INTO OFFICE. LUDICROUS!

What have you done?

What have you done?

What have I done? Dude, you don't want to go down that road. I don't ask for anyone's permission to do anything, not to travel, not to earn a living, and especially not random assholes in the state house. I may ask my lady for permission to do something on occasion but she's the only one and you best believe I don't pay her for it.

"Please give up and pretend that is victory."

Got it.

That sounds like a decent option if you are potentially willing to give up your freedom and live in prison. I salute you for it, but it's not for everyone.

The adults here are trying to make the rules better so you can do the same thing and not have to worry about going to prison.
