Does anyone else get the feeling that all of this posturing with Iran is just total bullshit?

I mean pardon my French, but to me it just seems like there's no way Iran wants to pick a fight with us and there's no way we want to pick a fight with Russia and China by attacking their oil supplier.

So then why all the posturing? Why is there a story on the news every 5 minutes about Iran and the strait and the sanctions (which don't go into effect for 6 months) and this and that. Meanwhile, the economic news is all good and happy (even though we're still in a depression with the possibility of worse things to come).

Forgive me for an Alex Jones moment, but could it be that the powers that be are trying to make Iran seem like an imminent threat, like we are about to go to war at any second, in order to scare people away from Dr. Paul?

It seemed to me like they did this back in 2007 as well. Every story while Paul was in the race was about military and terrorism and the success of the Patriot Act and the success of the surge in Iraq, etc, etc, etc. The economy was doing great and the terrorists were at our doorsteps. Then McCain won the nomination and suddenly there was no more terrorism or war in Iraq and the economy was the biggest news story from then on.

Am I looney for having a gut feeling that this is just a repeat of that same BS?

SoT, you seem to be genuinely interested in an answer. Take it from one who has floated in the PG; this is saber rattling on our part. Our foreign policy is designed to provoke. Has been for quite some time. Everyone in the State Department knows they are the smartest people on the face of the planet, and if they believe hard enough that Iran will cave and cower when faced with bullying, then that must be the way it is. Economic manipulation against Iran is ostensibly designed to smooth the way for regime change. If that sounds like it has the potential for blowback (which will then be used as a pretense for war), then you may not be looney. Its happened before. I suggest that you take a listen to this lecture on file at the Library of Congress. This isn't Alex Jones stuff, its the real deal.
Bankrupting the Enemy
We encourage our children to stand up to bullies when they confront them, yet as a country we're surprised when other nations pop us in the nose for our aggressive foreign policy.

Keep on learning,

Iran benefits from the war talk, with higher oil prices, so they play along

There was a cartoon about seven years ago showing Dubya on stage desperately trying to inflate a missile labeled with Iran's name on it.

Yeah, Iran wishes it were the boogieman our MIC is trying to paint it as. That would earn it considerable respect in the region. But all this is is us trying to do our buddies Saudi Arabia a huge favor. Because, after all, they did us such a huge favor on 9/11/01.

Yes. I think the reason is less about scaring people away from Ron Paul but scaring people into voting for which ever Republican candidate can paint Iran as the most eminent threat. Said Republican candidate will then posture that he/she is the toughest hombre to deal with Iran and so you should vote for him/her (of course "she" just folded her campaign so that leaves all the "hims" to continue the saber rattling.) Once you point out how stupid this war mongering is, it's not that hard to convert rational people to Ron Paul.
