Two dead, three others injured after shooting at Birmingham nightclub

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — Two people are dead, and three others are injured after a shooting at a Birmingham nightclub early Monday morning.
The Birmingham Police Department said officers responded to UAB Hospital around 2:30 a.m. after three people, two women and a man, with gunshot wounds arrived at UAB Hospital Emergency Room.
When officers arrived, the police department said they learned at least two suspects began firing on the three injured people when they arrived at the hospital.
A hospital door and a UAB Police patrol car was struck by gunfire. Birmingham PD said the two injured women were pronounced dead by UAB staff and the man has life-threatening injuries.
The two women who died were identified as 24-year-old Markiezia Atkins and 33-year-old Chaveda Willis.
Birmingham PD said two other women arrived at UAB Hospital with gunshot wounds. They are believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the initial shooting that injured all five victims happened in the 900 block of 5th Avenue North at the Aria Restaurant & Lounge. Police said the shooting is believed to have been a targeted attack, but added that most of the victims were innocent bystanders.
There are no suspects in custody.
