Agent Provocateurs - The Trolls Among Us

As I said previously, it's not the forum trolls we should worry ourselves with.

It's the "trolls" joining the meetup groups, or these fringe groups trying to attach themselves to the campaign.

well, the meet up organizers are free to tell them where to go :)

I personally have been to reactive in my posts today but I feel I had valid points that had to be made. My post count is low, I will bow out back to my lurker status for a few days cause this is really bothering me.
I wish the primaries for Alabama were tomorrow, then I could quit worrying about this altogether having cast my vote.

Trolls look something like this:

, be on the lookout.

Great post Nyte!

+1

Just substitute Missouri for Alabama and this is pretty much how I feel as well. Although I will say I'll probably continue to worry no matter what the outcome is.

Why would you say such a thing?

Sorry if I offended you LibertyEagle, but it doesn't do any good to stick our heads in the sand and pretend this is a campaign for class president.

We're up against some very powerful people that will do everything in their power to prevent our revolution from gaining momentum.

I'm not trying to be alarmist. I'm only hoping to raise awareness.

I believe we can be better prepared to handle these types of issues if we confront them now.

Keep your wits about you and if an individual start spouting off with posts that rub you the wrong way put said individual on your ignore list for a few days and drive on. If things seem to be getting out of hand in a thread flag it and let the mods sort it out.

I can show you all the trolls by username. But I'll only be banned from the forum. So you good non-troll folks will have to figure it out for yourselves.

There is no doubt in my mind, that whatever Beck was talking about was done that was to him was by people like this. Unfortunately he's far too blind to ever think of that, let alone believe it.

There be trolls, and then there be provocatures

Greetings All,

This raises an interesting question about free speech. At what point do we stop respecting another person's right to express himself? We may not agree with what "trolls" say, but at what point do we have the right to censor them?

Anyone who makes illegal posts threatening violence to others, especially to government officials, and who asks that others agree this is a good idea, should be banned, IMO. I'm thinking specifically of the poster Wingman, whom I haven't seen here in a few days since I called him out. He has started several threads that were questionable in terms of their attempts to get others to agree with bad or stupid ideas. But the one that galvanized me to call for his being banned from the forum was this thread http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=57724

Specifically see posts 1, 8, and 10. Post 10 has now been edited by the forum administrators but it is quoted in post 23. Essentially he is calling for execution of government officials and wanting others to agree that it would be ok. To publically state opinions to this effect is illegal and, in this day and age, I fear that, if left unchecked, words posted like this could get the forum shut down.

Normal trolls, of which I've seen several here, can be ignored/argued with at the readers discretion. But please everyone don't let yourself get caught up in emotion and find yourself agreeing with something Ron Paul himself wouldn't do, much less with something that could land you in jail for saying it.

This is crazy. I went to the link in Hot Topics about the LGF site. This Trance Dance Master in our forums is a NAZI!!! We can't put up with his HATE ideology. It goes against everything the good Doctor stands for. WE NEED TO BAN THIS EVIL KID!

we need to all get out and do our job to get ron paul elected. Maybe stay away from the boards or the admin may want to get a new undisclosed place.

Please go to the following URL for great insight on the myriad personalities here. You will find nearly all our forum friends and family. I have faith that you will understand what we have here once reviewing this extremely detailed and accurate scientific study of the forum personae:

Thanks for that link, you've helped me discover myself. I am a cross between Troglodyte and Capitalista!

"Troglodyte seems to have emerged from the mists of time untouched by human evolution. Devoid of a single progressive idea and lacking the slightest awareness of social and cultural advances, Troglodyte has developed an incoherent political philosophy that he characterizes as "conservative" or "libertarian", but which could be more accurately described as "bigoted narcissism".

Capitalista is not always a wealthy fat cat; being a Capitalista is a state of mind rather than a reflection of affluence. A strident and extraordinarily self–satisfied Warrior, Capitalista takes every opportunity to extol the superiority of the free enterprise system and has a powerful aversion to the welfare states of Europe. Capitalista fiercely defends the market economy, bludgeoning “fuzzy-minded socialists” with Adam Smith, Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek."

I think some of the more extreme people are probably just getting caught up in some of the logical traps you encounter in libertarian political thought.

If the libertarian model of governance is the right one, by many measures we are currently living in a tyranny.

Tyrannical forms of government have no legitimacy and it's morally acceptable and appropriate to resist them with direct action.

When you combine that syllogism with the anger and frustration that a lot of us feel, you're going to get people who go over the edge. I don't think those people are provocateurs. I don't discount the possibility that some of them may be, but I just think the phenomenon is more easily explained by the nature of the libertarian political movement in general.

I know, I know - this is a Republican political movement. But you can't deny that many of the people in it are present or former libertarians and that it uses a lot of the libertarian political narrative.

Good post Fluffy.

My thought is that we will know when legitimate force is necessary. Not when we're pushed into it by provocateurs who only seek to punish the Revolution.
