Action Alert: Rep. Rohrabacher Introduces 'Respect State Marijuana Laws Act'

During the Obama administration, eight states, plus the District of Columbia, legalized marijuana for recreational purposes. Dozens more passed laws regarding marijuana use for medicinal purposes. Obama's DOJ generally agreed to a hands off policy regarding states that have voted to legalize recreational marijuana. With the new administration, there is considerable stress about whether or not these policies will still be in place. This is true both for medical marijuana patients as well as for people whose livelihoods are in the cannabis industry.

Enter Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), a medical marijuana patient himself, who introduced the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act on Wednesday to the House of Representatives. The bill would protect people from being prosecuted under the Controlled Substances Act as long as they are following their particular state's laws regarding marijuana.

Rohrabacher has introduced the bill before, in 2015 and in 2013. In 2015, a bipartisan group of representatives joined Rohrabacher in co-sponsoring the bill.

About sixty percent of people support legalizing marijuana in the United States.

Well, If Trump does support States rights, and leaves it up to the states, then hopefully he will sign this bill into law.

We should imprison violent drug dealers and those that try to cause harm.

However herbs and medicines originally were freely administered by Shamans and those that needed it.

I think that if herbs and certain plants are used responsibly, then there should be no problems.

Now if somebody high on drugs starts causing car accidents and things like that, well even common law courts would have a case filed against the culprit. Whether your a fan of common law, or statutory law, balancing it with freedom/liberty, well as long as you don't harm somebody or their property, you should not ever be prosecuted.

There usually needs to be an injured party for a crime to have occurred. The crime can involve adults, children, property, etc etc. If somebody is just doing some medicinal herbs or plants, then there is no injury to anybody unless you cause a DUI.

What are the chances the an act, requiring the federal government to follow the constitution, will be passed as law? I prediction is that Jeff Sessions will influence Trump to veto if the bill gets to his desk.

When's the last time you heard of a violent moonshiner or bootlegger? Right. You haven't. It's prohibition that creates the violence in the business of whatever is being sold and not the other way around.
