Acquiescence to Globalization

Some rough notes from part 1 of the speech, where John Ralston Saul presents media examples of Propaganda regarding Globalization and discusses issues related to this propaganda.

  • Globalization is inevitable (he follows-up on this.... see below)
  • Gov'ts are more powerful than markets
  • Society is taking the direction that it is due to the communications revolution
  • Admission that Intellectual Property will have major impact on Int'l Trade System
  • Globalization defeats competition through the creation of global oligopolies
  • No discussion about the direction that we are heading
  • Globalization needs more PR to be sold to the losers.
  • If Globalization is inevitable, then how can its undoubted overall benefits be at risk? If it can be at risk, than it cannot be inevitable.
  • Protectism can not be allowed to return
  • German leader says we need to develop a code to protect ourselves from the marketplace.
  • Where is the massive national intellectual discussion on this new system?
  • It was acknowledged by Microsoft that it was an Oligopoly, and the EU forced MS to sell code to competitors in order to enter the EU marketplace.
  • 12M farmers agree not to save seeds in order to replant them.
