Abortion: Life and Death:

Ozwest,

I find it amazing how you underestimate the power legislation considering your a RP supporter. Laws have a tremendous effect on our behavior. People dedicate their lives just studying laws, billions are spent trying to influence law-makers into making laws. So, lets stop pretending that the number of abortions wouldnt go down if we passed a law against it. Abortion numbers would drop dramatically.

If you deny abortion is murder, then what do you believe a fetus is? A piece of property? Woman who commit abortion are murderers, assuming you believe that fetuses are people just like you and me.

As for the consequences of making abortion illegal, such as woman getting unsafe abortions. I fail to see what the problem is. If these woman voluntarilly get unsafe abortions, they've decided the risk is worth it. Just like any murderer who kills his wife or neighbor knows he's going to go to jail if he gets caught.

And I find this thinking to be rather protectionist. Do you believe its our role to protect woman from having unsafe abortions and keep them safe from themselves?

I do underestimate the power of legislation.

Are drugs illegal? Is prostitution illegal? How about un-organized gambling?

As a Ron Paul supporter, I despise legislation and celebrate un-hindered self-reliance. I prefer to not have my behavior "tremendously" affected by law makers, especially Federal law makers.

2/3 are less prevalent. Plus, none of the three are violations of others' rights. In the USA, it is very hard to find an illegal card house, and many don't sleep with prostitutes on the basis that many are cops, or you could get a disease much more easily. That doesn't justify their illegality, just that they are indeed less prevalent.

Prostitution is less prevalent? Illegal gambling is hard to find?

I was raised a Chicago boy. Who are you kidding?

Even Obama couldn't clean up the South side.

You must live in Disneyland.

Every town has its "red-light" district. In our society, if you are known to hang out there, we know you're scum (I don't care if I want to legalize everything, I still think you're scum if you participate). In an open society, we wouldn't know since you can do anything anywhere, as long as it wasn't illegal for other reasons.

The abortion subject is a volatile one. Unfortunately, it is impossible to find middle ground.

Guess I'm a pragmatist on this issue.

Although I disagree with you on several points, I can understand your position. Respect for life is always a noble cause.
