ABC News reports campaign working on backup strategy (Benton calls report 'asinine')

Ron Paul Has No Plan B
Jesse Benton calls reports that the campaign was exploring fallback plans “asinine".

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Ron Paul's campaign manager Jesse Benton dismissed a report that the organization was forming a Plan B in anticipation of Paul not winning the nomination as "asinine" after a town hall meeting today.

"Of course you always have fallback plans, but our plan is to win the nomination," Benton said. "Any report that we're not 100 percent focused on winning the nomination is just asinine."

Benton said that he stressed that point "over and over and over again" with the reporter who wrote the ABC story in question, and that he's "just going to stop talking to him if he doesn't stop misreporting what I say."

Paul deflected questions about a potential third-party run again today, telling the town hall audience that "The question is premature."

Rather asinine reporting (title) and statement by Benton. If he can't keep from contradicting himself, he shouldn't be speaking for Paul.

I've read the propaganda piece and the retort and I'm still left somewhat annoyed at this. I didn't like the talk about not concentrating on Florida a few weeks ago, which even if it's true, you still don't say stuff like that to the press. Nor did I like the talk about securing as many delegates as possible because though that is what will get you elected, it gives the impression that winning the popular vote isn't a high priority, which again should not be said to the press.

They've got to stop allowing themselves to be put in this situation. The press is not their friend, the press will NEVER be their friend. Stop feeding the trolls with any internal information. There is absolutely no reason why this convo with a abc reporter should have been happening. There's no reason why "we're in this to win it" should have needed to be stressed over and over to a fricken beat reporter. If you needed to repeat that even once, then that should have been a clue of an agenda. The convo should have been ended right then and there. Hell, the fact that it was a mainstream media reporter should have made you ask a boatload of questions before you even gave them the time of day.

This crap can be solved easily if Benton and anyone in the campaign does one simple thing: Stop talking about any outcome other than winning. I don't want to read or hear anything about plan Bs, nothing about 'backup plans', nothing about 'secret plans', no "it's a long shot" statements, no "we'll do out best" remarks, no "we hope", no "we'll see", no ifs buts or ands about anything OTHER than winning this thing. Walk, talk, and act like the frontrunner.

Who owns your vote, you or Ron Paul?

That said, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ron Paul voted for Gary Johnson instead of Mitt Romney. I'll be more surprised if he endorses Mitt. And it won't work on me if he does.

He will not. He did not endorse McCain, and he knows that Goldwater self-destructed himself when he endorsed Nikson.

I actually ran into a Ron Paul supporter last night. He noticed my revolution beenie. I had to set him straight when he said Ron Paul was not in it to win. So this new attack has been heard. I am glad that the campaign is addressing this aggressively.
