A Throw Away Vote

I think this might be a powerful idea... playing to the widespread discontent in the electorate... basically that a vote for anyone else other than Paul is a throw-away vote, it'll just get you more of the same...

You vote for a mainstream Dem you're going to get more of what's going on in Congress... inaction, pork, weakness (very unpopular)

You vote for a mainstream Rep (especially important in the primaries) you're going to get more of what's going on in the White House, Bush... Iraq, Guantanamo, corruption, oppression of liberty (very unpopular, yet exactly what they said in the debates)

None of the "front-runners" of either party will actually go against the status quo in any significant way to bring about real change whereas Paul will.

I'm going to try to write a viral email based on this idea targeted to independents, undecideds, and sane Republicans...

And another thing...

I think we're best served trying to make a difference at the margin... the people who know nothing about him and those who are teetering towards Paul but need a little push... We shouldn't waste energy on the jihad-obssessed nor with the diehard Dems. You just wear yourself down fighting with them when the chance of converting them is slim to none. But, there are many out there who are hungry for his message and not satisfied with the alternatives... that's the target.

Just a little insight... That I need to follow...

This is a good idea. I always hear people saying that a vote for Ron Paul is a wasted vote, but in reality it's the other way around. I think Badnarik had a commercial like that in 2004.

I propose replacing "Rudy McRomney" with "Robamary McRomwardson." Or maybe that's too much.

I've been saying the same thing, too. I've had well-meaning friends and family members tell me not to vote for 3rd party candidates or what the MSM calls 2nd tier candidates.

I suggest asking them - How many times have you wasted your vote on candidates who won?

The realist in me says that Ron Paul can't win the nomination. But that realist also expects a significant showing. Just because I'm not voting for the winner does not mean I'm throwing away my vote. A vote for Ron Paul is a message to the Republican Party that I'm tired of their big-government interventionist candidates. By itself it carries little weight. But coupled with millions of similar votes, it's enough to get heard.

Yes

I also remember how we were told that it would be throwing our vote away if we do not vote Republican. I almost for the first time didn't last major election but voted Republican because of Kerry (Have to be a vet to understand the hatred of this man) and the Dems could have won if it was anybody but Kerry running.

I will vote as usual in the Republican primary as I always have but RP does not get the nod then I am done with the Republican party. They have stabbed me in the back too many times and are traitors to the platform I remember and love.

I know that Ron Paul *can* win. I firmly believe that he *will*, too.
It's up to us.

I would be surprised if the Ron Paul campaign growth did not = a win in the long run.

I mean... look at the competition...

If Ron Paul loses, we have ourselves, and America, to blame. Not anything or anyone else. That's for sure.

I think you should change your viral campaign and base it on the fact that Ron Paul is not a third party candidate and he should stop getting treated as one.

Like This

I like this idea...

There's a popular local radio host who always rants and raves about how voting for anyone who's not a Republican is throwing away your vote.

Maybe someone could do some research to get a list of the big polls out there that have put the Republican "front runners" up against the Dem front runners. From what I've heard all the Democrats beat all the Republicans...

Soo...

It stands to reason that unless you vote for Ron Paul (the only ANTI IRAQ WAR REPUBLICAN) you're "throwing your vote away".

I can't wait to call in to make that point to that radio host :D

Viral email

Here's what I came up with... open to comments, suggestions...

Subject: I Never Do This

Dear friends,

I would never send you an email like this if it weren’t extremely important. This letter is important. It’s about changing American politics… in a real, positive way… But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Look, I’m writing you because I’m concerned that you might be throwing your vote away both in the presidential primaries and maybe also in the general election. I don’t want you to do that.

Chances are that you’ve heard of most all the candidates and that you’ve seen some of them on TV. But, you probably haven’t heard much about one of them… a 10-term Congressman and doctor from Texas named Ron Paul. Dr. Paul is NOT one of the front-runners, which is why I want to draw your attention to him. If you know anything about him you probably know that he’s the only one on the Republican side who voted against the Iraq War and spoke out against it from the beginning. As a matter of fact, Dr. Paul spoke out against it when it was just an idea swirling around in neoconservative think-tanks!

But that doesn’t mean that Congressman Paul is weak on defense. To the contrary, Paul believes in aggressively hunting down Osama Bin Laden (remember him?), bringing him to justice, and dismantling the Al Qaeda network from the top down. (He’s also the one candidate who’s serious about controlling our borders and enforcing existing laws.)

Unlike the Democrats who are also against the Iraq War Dr. Paul WILL put a stop to our soldiers dying in another country’s civil war. But instead of replacing the rampant spending of the war ($600Bn+) with more waste at home Dr. Paul will also cut-back on government pork and waste as he has done consistently in the Congress for over 10 years.

Paul has made some very unpopular (within his party) votes in favor of the taxpayer. (He voted against giving a gold medal to Ronald Reagan, and suggested that he and the other politicians pay for it out of their own pocket!) He is the taxpayers’ best friend. He’ll eliminate the Income Tax and phase out the nightmare bureaucracy that is the IRS! Will any other candidate do this? Absolutely not.

A lot of the politicians out there talk a good game and they look good, but the fact is that they will NOT step out of line with their parties. They will not create positive change.

That’s why a vote for any of them is a vote for the establishment, a vote to keep things the way they are. If you’re happy with that, then by all means vote that way. But to me it’s a throw away vote. Only a vote for Paul will make a difference in where this country is headed. Paul will take us back to the prosperity that our nation once enjoyed…

He’s the “Thomas Jefferson of our day”, as Judge Andrew Napolitano calls him.

He respects your liberty like no other politician in Washington.

Please take a moment to learn about Dr. Paul. Here’s an overview of his record:

He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably more than any single member of Congress.

If any of this sounds good to you, then I urge you to support the Paul campaign. You, like me, may not agree with him about everything. But, he’s a good man, a man of his word… an unusual politician that you can actually feel good about supporting.

A vote for him is the only one that’s NOT a waste!

Sincerely,

Your Concerned Friend

very good.

The only thing additional I mght of included is the Reagan quote about a strong defense, and a link to show how much interest he has garnered on the internet - possibly incouding how CNN and ABC tried to keep his name out of prominence.

I don't like throwing my vote away on main stream candidates, but perhaps I'm selfish that way.

My one vote will not affect the outcome of the presidential race unless I wear a black robe to work as the 2000 race demonstrated.

But my one vote will have the most affect on those candidates that have very little support. And they tend to represent me a whole lot more than the lesser of two evils so I feel good about myself when I leave the voting booth.

When Ron Paul runs for the general election against Hillary and his polls show him as the knockout leader I will still vote for him. Not because I think my vote will have any impact, but because he represents my views the most of all other candidates.

I hope that when Ron Paul is elected in the Republican primary the Libertarian Party and the Constitution Party don't run their candidates and instead vote to support Ron Paul.

Absolutely!

If you like the letter... please, please, please... send it to everyone you can!!! Hopefully we can get a strong chain-letter phenomenon going and reach a lot of people that we wouldn't otherwise...
