A Scenario Where A Ron Paul 3rd Party Run Gives Republicans the Win

A recent poll shows that if Ron Paul ran today as a third party candidate against Obama and Romney he would get 13% of the vote and hand the election to Obama, as votes for Dr. Paul hurt Ronmey far more than Obama.

Imagine another scenario. The economy continues to tank and the bipartisan disgust for both parties increases even much more dramatically and the predictions and platforms of Ron Paul become more widely acknowledged and accepted. He wins a sufficient number of delegates to deprive both the Democrat and the Republican of winning a majority of delegates. The election is then thrown to the U.S. House of Representatives who will then select the Republican since they will have the majority in that chamber.

Exactly. In most public polls, Ross Perot was averaging 39% of the vote and Clinton and Bush were both in the 20s, the July of the '92 election. Ron could definitely pick up electoral votes if the tea party movement grows and the economy continues to tank...someone like Romney has no chance in 2012, even with the 50 million plus of personal cash he spends.

Have you looked at Theodore Roosevelt's political positions? He was FAR worse than Wilson. Wilson, as a candidate, wasn't the worst that America could come up with. Of course, in the end he betrayed his antiwar position. But you know what TR was doing that whole time? Arguing why Wilson was weak not to escalate even more!

Don't count out those faithless electors. John Hospers & Theodora Nathan got an electoral vote in '72. Nathan won the "triple crown" that year - the first woman/Jew/Libertarian to receive an electoral vote.

If Ron Paul doesn't win, what difference does it make? I see no difference between Romney and Obama. Yeah, under that scenario republicrats would cry "spoiler", but if they're dumb enough to vote for Romney then forget em.

I wonder if Ron's supporters are his worst enemies. Too many of them cheer him on, and then won't vote because they say voting (even for him) is beneath their principles.

Leaving the other guys to laugh him off the stage again for having "no support."

"Set him up and shoot him down," seems to be the libertarian motto.
