Or maybe as Reason laid out so well, these damning letters are easy for any journalist to unearth, and a competent staff would have seen this coming instead of crying"conspiracy" when it hits the fan. Why is Lew Rockwell riding Ron Paul's coat tails?

If he were actually helping run a winning campaign and seemed like a more sympathetic character, I would be outraged that he is a target.

It seems he has selfishly placed Ron Paul in a quandary. Lew was the editor and could give a satisfactory account of how that racist garbage came into the newsletter. He has made a bad situation worse by attacking Kirchick and CATO. Ron Paul is in a tough position now.

I find it amusing that eso many seem to have all the facts regarding Lew Rockwell's relationship to Ron Paul, and how much damage this is supposedly causing the campaign. One gets the impression that the most damage is being done to the campaign within the minds of certain individuals who cannot seem to accept the fact that the newsletters are in the past, and that is where they will remain. If you expect Lew Rockwell or anybody else to come out and throw gasoline on a fire just to satisfy your own selfish curiosity, or so you can sleep better at night, then you will be sorely disappointed.

We will not ever find out who wrote that material. Ever. Get over it and move on. To dwell on the matter, or to get defensive, or to degenerate into finger pointing and blame shifting is exactly what the media is looking for. Sadly, that otherwise intelligent people are ingorant of this reality is at best a suprise, and at worst something that arouses suspicion.

And the fact remains that some members of the so-called "beltway" libertarian crowd are among Paul's most vociferous enemies, which certainly makes them out to be ideologically more stringent than the Mises crowd, made up of paleolibertarians who in many cases have objections to many of Paul's positions, yet still lend their support. On the other hand, Lew Rockwell welcomes people of all ideological strains at his website, posting articles from everyone from Noam Chomsky to Sidney Blumenthal and Walter Williams to Walter Block. I highly doubt that a beltway libertarian running for president would fail to receive the support of paleolibertarians. Yet, the CATO crowd and many other "cosmopolitan" libertarians can't seem to swallow Ron Paul, the closest candidate to their ideology they may ever see. It makes one wonder.

And so DiLorenzo's points are well taken. It is highly unlikely that Kirchick, a year or two out of college, would have the astuteness to track down these sources on his own, and it should also be noted that certain beltway libertarians managed to get screen time when CNN ran with the story.

DiLorenzo is just being a "good LRC soldier" and following orders.

Blah, Blah, Blah CATO are just a bunch of compromising "libertarians" who support Fred Thompson. Regardless if they are responsible for this or not they shouldn't be seen as good guys since they suck on the establishment teet pretty well.
