A country that doesn't care about its past or its own rules

Because people are used to the fact that congress is utterly corrupt, shot full of traitors, moles and Fifth Columnists, and it abdicated its responsibility to the constitution, the people and the nation, decades ago.

It's not right, but it is what it is.

Trump shares responsibility to act licitly. He is not.

Why doesn't anyone care that Trump should be seeking Congressional approval?
Why would Trump care what Congress thinks or wants? Why would anyone? They have proved themselves useless. In fact, they are beyond useless. They actively are hurting this country and making every problem worse.

Trump by himself needs to do what has to be done.

Who decides "what has to be done" ? Just Him, apparently. We all might as well just stop thinking for ourselves.
This thread isn't about the tariffs necessity, it is about the Constitution and historical precedent.

Twelve states have filed a lawsuit against President Trump, claiming that his tariffs are illegal and that he lacks the authority to impose them without congressional approval. The lawsuit argues that these tariffs could lead to economic harm, including increased costs for consumers and potential job losses.

People say that they don't trust congress or that it's corrupt, but deep down, they are very happy with their representatives and the way that they vote on the house floor.

Take Youngstown, for example, where they are going to be the "Innovation Hub for Aerospace and Defense". Or Scranton, where they make Artillery Shells for Ukraine. You think they're going to vote for a Congressperson who will take their jobs away?

For as long as folks have been involved in political "debate", you still don't have any idea how it even works.

It's just like the manufactured border "problem", where the prison industrial complexes profit off of the tax payers. They will vote for anybody who keeps their jobs going now and into the future, ie: Corporate Welfare, even to the point of completely throwing the Bill of Rights away and wanting the suspension of Habeas Corpus. That's what you and the People want. It's about jobs.

McKinley wanted tariffs as bad as Trump, but he got them from Congress.

Why doesn't anyone care that Trump should be seeking Congressional approval?

Because I don't believe Trump is serious about following through on the tarriffs. I think he has no intention of actually leaving them in place.

And Congress gave the president the power because as a large deliberative body it is incapable of engaging in the kind of negotiations Trump is engaging in with other nations, and diplomacy is an executive branch power so it's really not possible for Congress.

We can consider returning the tariff power to Congress when our economy and industry have been repaired and Congress has been filled with patriots, and even then we may decide to leave things as they are for practical reasons.

Who decides "what has to be done" ?
We the people who elected him in spite of every attempt by the establishment to stop us decide.
Congress has rigged the system so that we do not have much say in selecting them, and we haven't fixed that yet.

Then he should negotiate and present his recommendations to Congress for approval or rejection.
Instead, he's claimed and is operating as if he has the power to levy tariffs against any or all trade partners based on the claim of a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. This has never been done until now, not for tariffs.
So, the Senate Republicans tried to approve, but it failed, 49-49.
After which, Thune put a motion to table it, so it couldn't come up again, and that went 49-49 also,
then Vance stepped in to break the tie, and have the matter shelved indefinitely.

It will move up in the courts, which is probably where it belongs, since the Senate is deadlocked.

Rand Paul was among those who voted in disapproval: "Paul said the Constitution forbids taxation being implemented in a way that circumvents Congress and laid out why he thought that was the case today."
