The plane was seen by numerous eyewitnesses, and had a flight path north of what used to be the CITGO gas station. This includes Pentagon Police officers who were on surveillance video during the attack, and they have been interviewed on scene to describe where they saw the plane.

The downed light poles would indicate a flight path south of what was the CITGO gas station, and the damage to the Pentagon would indicate a south of CITGO flight path.

The theory is that the plane flew to the north of CITGO, and flew just over the Pentagon. While this occurred, some type of smaller plane or missile flew south of the CITGO, may have downed the lightpoles then hit the Pentagon.

The plane that flew just over the Pentagon was then basically over an airport, so it looked totally normal, but there wasn't really a good view of it. To witnesses, it appeared the commercial plane did the damage to the Pentagon.

It is also likely that explosives were placed in the Pentagon that went off simultaneously with the smaller plane/missile.
