I think the more likely scenario is overleveraged hedge funds being forced to sell off assets to make margin calls.

Yeah, the need for real money does result in sell-offs and price suppression in gold...but does a margin call in some way result in the DOW immediately going up? If someone doesn't make the margin calls, liquidations could cause the DOW to drop though.

Went up because foreign investors bought stock in banking institutions pushing the price up. I think the only thing that raised was the price of banking stock but guess what it will fall again and next time I don't think anyone will invest.
