A couple of suggestions.

1. It looks like there is a darkened area to the left of his mouth. It may just be the photo, if so a little bit of dodge right there might do the trick.

2. You could duplicate the layer RP's face is in and then put the top layer in overlay and adjust the opacity so that you get a higher contrast look more like the original. Then maybe add a bit of noise.

3. Pull the leading in on the text. Look how tight it is in the original.

These are just my suggestions from one graphic designer to another, it a really cool idea.
