$5 Million quarter may be doable - ticker is lagging -- per source from within campaign

The ticker on my computer says one hour and forty minutes.

haha.. I just changed my computer clock to yesterday... and there's 1 day 2 hours left!!! Everyone change their computer clock back a day!

Any estimates on how much it's lagging by?

We need approximately 620k in 49 minutes per the ticker.

The ticker is linked to your windows clock. When is the real deadline? Eastern, Central, Mountain, or Pacific?

Yeah, i think the offline donations have been coming in slowly throughout the day. It'd be nice if we got one last big push

Remember, every dollar donated now is worth FIVE TIMES that much later in the campaign.

Maxing out now, would be like maxing out FIVE TIMES several months from now!

Can someone explain why this is? I read this somewhere else too, maybe from a Paul newsletter that I got in my email. Maybe they're saying the value of the dollar is going up by 5 times in the next few months? :D:D:D

There are many reasons.

First, the money can be used to build infrastructure that can be used to raise additional funds.

Secondly, ad time is cheaper when there are not as many candidates buying it.

Third, the more momentum we get early on the more seriously we will be taken.

If the value of a dollar went up by 5 times in a few months, then the saying would be "a dollar now is worth one-fifth later on". The reason is that the campaign can use the money more effectively early on, advertising is cheaper early on, that can more carefully plan how they want to spend the money they have, and so on and so forth...

Oh, and the quote about 1 now being worth 5 later is from Ron Paul, and its on the campaign website on the donation page.

Now I see. Excuse the newish questions, but I'm learning everyday. Why is the 'quarter earnings' so important? I mean, isn't there another quarter or 3 coming up too before the election? I'm going to guess that this quarter is important because of the third reason you listed (doing well early on).

I saw an article the other day from a tea party group in her state and they HATED her. Because apparently she backed someone who had supported TARP.

Yes, she campaigned for Roy "Bailout" Blunt here in Missouri last year.

I'd love to kick MB real hard. She makes me ill. We had a REAL TEA Party-approved candidate she could have worked with.

Yes. And our recently discussed 1 to 5 principle

If you front-load your campaign you can hire all the best staffers and build infrastructure early.

Ugh, I can empathize with you on Roy Blunt and Claire "bear" McCaskill. They are both just awful.

The media pays attention to these numbers, and they won't take you seriously whatsoever unless you're able to raise some cash. I predict that bad quarter results will probably drag a lot of the media attention from Santorum and Gingrich.

But with Gingrich, who is expected to be in the red, I think they'll compare it to McCain who also ran his campaign in the red for a while.

The fact that that isn't exactly 'conservative' will likely not be mentioned.

That might make an interesting ad, you know, Suzu. Just something in a few Iowa newspapers from the tea party in your state, illuminating the fact of her support for this bailout king in lieu of a real tea party candidate. A warning from the Minnesota Tea Party... :)
