Dumbasses are determined to make it happen.

More than four in 10 Democrats say they have a favorable opinion of socialism, according to a survey of 1,000 U.S. adults released in January by data and research firm YouGov; this percentage is nearly identical to what the researchers found in May of last year. Meanwhile, only about one in three say they have an unfavorable opinion of the ideology.

The polling comes as Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-described “democratic socialist,” is considered the front-runner to capture the New Hampshire primary on the Democratic side. Sanders has described the term as meaning that we “create a government that works for all and not just the few.”

Among Republicans, those numbers look significantly different: Just 17% of Republicans have a favorable opinion of socialism, while 71% have an unfavorable opinion of it. And for the most part — no matter what the party — it is young people who are most in favor of socialism. Fully 49% of people ages 18 to 29 have a favorable opinion of socialism, compared with just 23% of those 65 and up.

On the whole, nearly half of all Americans say they have an unfavorable opinion of socialism, the YouGov survey revealed.

That may explain why, in a separate survey, less than half of Americans said they would vote for a socialist president (sorry, Bernie). Indeed, only 47% of Americans said they would vote for a president who was a socialist, according to a survey of 1,500 adults released by Gallup last year, which looked at 11 types of candidates people would be willing to vote for, including a woman, gay or lesbian, Muslim and evangelical.

Among Democrats, 59% would do it, while among Republicans just 26% would. “Republicans and Democrats differ most in their willingness to vote for a socialist candidate, by 33 percentage points,” according to the Gallup data.

The power for "others" to force one to be any ISM must be removed.

We aint no damned commie socialist country, this is America, land of the free, where capitalism and laissez faire economics thrives and prospers, a shining example of limited government and free market economics to all in the world.

Praise America. Amen.

I wonder how many percentage of republicans support social security, medicaid, public schools, city fire department. I think the other 60% probably didn't know what I listed were socialist services already entrenched in the US. The US economic system has been a mix of capitalism and socialism and its going to remain that way for of a long time even if we had elected Rand Paul this time around.

The support for those socialism programs are so high that any pol that tries to take it away would most likely be burned at the stakes.

America has been a crony faux-market socialist hybrid for so long now that people just learn to love it. Hell, they want even more of it.

"Please, sir, may I have another bowl?"

That's why one should work for the complete collapse thereof.

The poll is bullshit.
The respondents should have been asked to define socialism instead.

So true - I had a conversation with my wife's grandmother a few years back (circa 2010) which went like this, while she was watching Faux Snooz:

Me: "some random comment about terrible democratic thing going on and how terrible Obama is/was"
Wife's GM: "I didn't know you were a Republican, who was your favorite President"
Me: "well they all kinda stink...who was the one that died after a couple weeks"
Wife's GM: "Oh, you know who was the best... FDR...blah blah blah (which is all i heard after that)"

...most people are hopeless...

Yah , poll is a lie , that would be the establishment Pubs at fifty percent or better , Dems would be 90 percent for communism....
It's mostly the dem prols that fall for the socialism lie. The Party Bosses and Bourgeoisie live high off donations from partisans and cronies. Check out the Clintons, for example.

Where is this country you speak of?

It's because they think the crony capitalism (i.e. fascism) that we have now is what true capitalism is. If you want to change minds on the Left, you have to teach them what unadulterated capitalism is. Regulation, tax, and patent laws favor the rich by reducing competition and creating monopolies.
