3rd Party Thoughts: by the numbers

I was told they did apply, but believe me, I wouldn't mind at all if I was misinformed. The person that told me that works for Dr. Paul, so I would be surprised if that was wrong...unless it was Benton who told me, but it wasn't.

Collins? LOL.

Can Ron be Gary's VP to get on the debate with Biden and whoever the hell Romney picks for VP?... won't it be funny, hypothetical if the VP debate was Ron Paul [L] vs Joe Biden [D] vs Rand Paul [R].... LOLZZZZ 2 Liberty candidates slugging away at Joe Biden.

That would be epic. I would like to see if Ron and Rand disagreed on something, to see how that would turn out.

Unfortunately, the VP for the Libertarian Party has already been chosen, so I'd think this is very unlikely.

40 % of all voters are independents!

Important facts to consider about the way obama won the last election:
1) a disenfranchised GOP voting block after the 8 bush years. many long time republicans voted for obama.
2) zero energy from the mccain campaign. the romney camp has the same problem, zero energy!
3) 1st timers; folks who never voted before also voted for obama in large numbers.
4) 'historic' vote for the US with regard to obama being the 1st african american to get the nomination.

NOT going to happen like this for obama this time around. The folks who bought the 'hope and change' slogan are finding that it's really 'more of the same'. This translates into less votes for the obama camp as well.

A 3rd party run that CAN compete for the independent vote is NOT out of the question.

The Paul campaign has more energy than the romney camp (not even close) and our energy can compete with the obama energy.

The GOP has shrunk! We would actually be taking votes from Romney in a general election! It would be a two man race between Paul and Obama, the romney camp would be lucky to pull 25%.

Agreed. His son Rand Paul's career is now nestled safely in the ample bosom of one Willard Mitt Romney. It's time Dr. Paul severed the rEVOLution from the GOP as it has served it's purpose.

Its clear Paul was never in this to win and it was all about Rand so he isn't going 3rd party. Lets hope Obama wins a second term so when the country collapses it will be under a Democratic president.

Sore loser laws have never been effective at keeping anyone off the ballot. Anderson ran third party in 1980 after running in the GOP primaries. Sore Loser laws have NEVER been enforced and have been overturned in any court that saw them.

Yeah too bad 99% of people are sheep. They're worthless. You can waste your energy trying to convert them but they'll end up dismissing you by saying "I like Ron Paul but he'll never win... So blah blah blah I'm gonna support Obomney."

Independents are issue voters. The 99% you refer to are a reflection of the other 60% of voters ("D" and "R") who do vote the party line, but independents are quite different.

How many of these threads are going to be created? The only way this would happen is an economic catastrophe! RON PAUL WILL NOT RUN 3RD PARTY!

The 40% INdy figure is bullshit, 39% of those indys are only such in that they sway between R and D.

Your average "Indy" has never heard of the LP, CP, or even GP.

I'm registered "Republican" and I am absolutely not voting Republican or Democrat in any of the race on my ticket. If it is local and there is no Libertarian, do I just write myself in or something??

I do that usually.

Problem is not sore loser laws. History has shown that these are not impediments, they are only in a couple of states and they would be a cinch to challenge in court. Primaries are private party elections. The general election is not a private party election...so is completely different. eg... I could create a anti-Romney party, run a primary with his name on the primary ballot...make sure he loses (it's a private election so this is easy to do...just rig the delegate apportioning)...and wala...Romney would be off the ballot in the general election because of the sore loser law.

The problem is not that we couldn't vote for Ron as a third party...it's that a third party (or at least one with good ballot access) wouldn't accept him. American's elect has been sabotaged by NWO insiders when they saw Ron would win. The Constitution party and LP have already nominated their choices and they're pretty lousy. The green party is the only party left with decent ballot access...and they are inline to nominate Rosanne Bar (more idiotic obsessions with third parties selecting celebrities over intellectuals).

If Ron wants to run...he'll have to do so as an independent. Ballot access will be tricky...but these restrictions are usually easily challenged in court. Even if Ron is left off the ballot...it actually might make a protest vote for him all the more powerful. Can you image a befuddled news reporter rattling off the vote totals and reading a large total for Ron Paul even though he wasn't on the ballot?

I guess that's my plan...write Ron onto the ballot whether he gets there or not.

• In 32 states, voter-marked paper ballots counted by ballot scanners will account for most or all votes. 19 states will use voter-marked paper ballots statewide. In 13 states and DC, optical scan voting will account for the majority of ballots: AK, AZ, CA, CO, FL, IL, HI, KY, MO, NC, WA, WI, and WY.

This means that most states will not count a vote that has been written in because the scanners will not read it. Here in Nevada, they are using electronic machines like they do in 10 other states and will also not let you write in a candidate.

Ron Paul can run as an independent, he doesn't need to run as a third party candidate. And it is not too late to get on the ballot in the majority of states, he easily has enough supporters to make this happen in any states whose deadline has not passed. There is a strong enough national movement and supporters among Democrats and indepdendents that I think he would manage to qualify for the presidential debates.

I don't think this had anything to do with Rand Paul. They disagree on enough issues.

I'd wager my life that most of these "Independents" are just moderates that wish they could vote for Jon Huntsman. We're better off trying to convert frustrated neo-cons and progressives.
