Check this out.. you can now register as a Libertarian in NC. You have to write it in (the form doesn't have a check box yet) and it looks like some folks have already done it and have been processed through the system.

At the top of the NC board of elections site there's a tally of the registrations in NC:

Democratic: 2,639,023 Republican: 1,926,421 Libertarian: 330 Unaffiliated: 1,260,220 Total: 5,825,994

now...... if only that was 330,000 or 3,300,000 instead of 330. Sigh..

depressing,

but it's like that in a lotta states

115 in massachusetts lp

279 members of the national party living in mass

but man we got a lotta unaffiliated and a lotta uninformed, ya feel?

Yes sir, it is good that people in the state of NC have another choice other than Republican, Democrat of Unaffiliated. Now, we just have to fight for the right to the ballot of the rest of the parties in the state such as the Constitution Party of NC, the NC Green Party and the Southern Party of NC. Not to mention we have to fight to fix the laws that cause third parties to quickly lose ballot access after finally working so hard and gaining it. Otherwise there is a chance that the Libertarian Party may once again lose access to the ballot, we can only hope not. The 2% of the total vote cast requirement to KEEP access to the ballot after you have finally got initial access is outrageous and also need to be lowered (or as we favor eliminated and replaced with some other means such as having to run candidates for office to keep access).

Congrats!

"When did Voting become a Privilege?"

oi.... look at this.. http://ncvoters.com/
look at their "New Voters by Party" chart. The Republican registrations are flat but the independents and democrats are shooting up. If only there were a checkbox on the registration card for "Libertarian" there might be more people registering Libertarian.

Also scroll to the very bottom and check the total shift from Republican. In the big scheme of things (5 million registered voters) it's not much, but it is an indicator. I'd like to see that updated though to show what's happened since the primaries. My guess is a bunch more ran away from the GOP.

Hell Yes, they are finally processing these things!

Good news for all the 3rd parties. Jordan is right tho, we need to get the laws changed so that the 3rd parties don't have to spend all their money just to get on the ticket.

It's a monopoly

Democratic: 2,639,023 Republican: 1,926,421 Libertarian: 330 Unaffiliated: 1,260,220 Total: 5,825,994

hmm.. I just happend to go back to the site tonight..
Voter Registration as of 07/22/2008 Democratic: 2,640,617 Republican: 1,926,642 Libertarian: 341 Unaffiliated: 1,261,814 Total: 5,829,414

They're updating it daily, and look at the change... hey.. I know somebody who can make a web site that tracks that data and displays it in a line graph. I would LOVE to see how the registrations change between now and November. Check out the small number of Republican registrations vs the Democrats and Unaffiliated (and 11 Libertarians woohoo!.. heh).

I had some more time tonight and did some more digging around. The state BOE site has a lot of data exposed now and it makes for some interesting reading..

look at data from 5/1/04 and you'll see over 10,000 registered Libertarians in the state of North Carolina. There were almost 1,000 in Mecklenburg alone.

Now look at the latest data from 8/9/08 ..

Has the Libertarian party not gotten the word out to those previously registered as Libertarians that they can switch their registration back?

Just thought I'd point out that NC now has over 1,000 Libertarian voters:

09/11/2008 Democratic: 2,693,616 Republican: 1,943,590 Libertarian: 1,017 Unaffiliated: 1,305,396 Total: 5,943,619

They had over 10,000 before the 2004 election (or was it 2006) when they didn't get enough votes and so lost their official party status and all their voter registration and ballot access was wiped out.

check it out after 2 months:
07/21/2008 Democratic: 2,639,023 Republican: 1,926,421 Libertarian: 330 Unaffiliated: 1,260,220 Total: 5,825,994
09/19/2008 Democratic: 2,706,623 Republican: 1,949,014 Libertarian: 1,180 Unaffiliated: 1,314,995 Total: 5,971,812

the Democrats have done well with their voter registration drives.

just means that the people think more government is the answer. The LP will never become a major party, especially with all of the pathetic infighting going on.
