Do as a say, not as I do, mundane. IMHO the only thing wrong they did was funneling through their employer, as the NFA, GCA, should be abolished and the ATF all imprisoned.

Between September of 2008 through January of 2010, Kabella, Kumstar and Slusser, used their positions as sworn law enforcement officers to acquire approximately 74 fully automatic H&K machineguns in the name of the Lake County Sheriff’s Department knowing that the Lake County Sheriff’s Department was not the true owner of these machineguns. When acquiring the machineguns, the defendants knew the machineguns could only be acquired by law enforcement agencies and not individual law enforcement officers. The purchases were made by using Lake County Sheriff’s Department letterhead and purchase orders, providing their own funds for payment. The machine guns were shipped to the Sheriff’s Department and then removed to Slusser’s residence, where they would be prepared for sale on the internet.

Kinda begs the question: is breaking a dumb law that shouldn't exist wrong?

I haven't made up my mind on this yet. On the one hand, the ATF shouldn't even exist. On the other, they knowingly and intentionally broke the law, for profit & personal gain.

Respect for the law is important. Disrespect of the Constitution (the original law), is how we got to the mess we're in today. Maybe disrespecting the laws today is not wrong, because the law itself is disrespecting us.

That's a good one. I think that you should pick your battles wisely. Everybody is breaking a law at some point of every day, particularly if you drive a vehicle for any amount of time. The more controversial ones like should there be a law against people choosing to medicate themselves how they choose, even if it means not going through a pharm giant. Like, weed.

I find it funny that people can go to jail for growing a plant.

And I get locked up and hung out to dry over a Double Barrel shotgun hanging on a wall in a rural farmhouse.

:(

Hmmmm....I bought my HK 416 from someone online. I paid 2500 dollars for everything except the lower ( the part you can't own). I don't think it was from these guys, but someone doing the same thing. HK will not sell these to anyone except law enforcement agencies. I suspect there is a lot of this going around.

Colt is the same way. They won't sell to mundanes, but that's company policy. You can just buy one through a proxy. Not that I would buy one from them anyway. F' Colt. There are plenty of other high quality AR manufactures.

Exactly... ArmaLite beats Colt any day of the week and on Saturday!

Notice the distinctive Armalite bolt catch:

Not to mention far better. Black Rain comes to mind, as well as Arrow Precision, the latter being one of the best deals on the market. BR is top drawer and you pay for it.

Not to derail this thread too much (maybe a split or new thread is warranted?), but the names that I see repeatedly coming up as being the top-quality AR manufacturers are, in no particular order,

Noveske
Larue
Lewis Machine & Tool (LMT)
Bravo Company Manufacturing (BCM)
Daniel Defense
Colt

I avoid Colt because of their perceived attitude toward citizen gun ownership. Besides, their rifles generally don't have the options I want (e.g., a carbine with a mid-length gas system for lower stress on parts).

There are undoubtedly other good manufacturers I'm not aware of. In fact, there are TONS of AR-15 manufacturers out there. But it's best to stick with those that have proven quality control and performance in rapid-fire, high-round-count situations (like carbine training courses). You can easily research a particular brand on various gun boards, especially M4Carbine.net and AR15.com. The neocon idiocy and evil on such boards can be difficult for a decent person to stomach, but you can still learn a lot from some of those people about experiences with different rifle brands, ammo, etc.

Oh yeah, let me say something about the thread topic. :o I wouldn't want these deputies arrested if I had reason to believe they wouldn't have arrested a private citizen whom they discovered breaking the same laws. But everything I've seen over the past decades tells me that decent cops who respect the Bill of Rights are a rare exception rather than the rule. Most are authoritarian scum. So I don't mind seeing them get fucked over once in a while by the same unconstitutional system they gladly protect and defend.
