26 women report sex assaults at German music festival

Berlin (AFP) - The number of women who have reported being sexually harassed or assaulted at a German music festival last weekend has risen to 26, police said Tuesday.


The mostly young women, who between them filed 14 criminal complaints, said they were encircled and groped by groups of men in ways that recalled mob attacks at chaotic New Year's festivities in Cologne.


"The women have reported that the (perpetrators) appeared to be men from the South Asia region," police said in a statement after an initial 18 women had reported assaults.


Police said three Pakistani men aged 28 to 31, at least two of them asylum seekers, were arrested at the four-day open air music festival in the western city of Darmstadt but later released.


The Cologne attacks on New Year's Eve -- committed in a crowd of mostly Arabic and North African men -- appalled Germany and sharpened public concern about the arrival of over one million asylum seekers last year, most from the Middle East.


In the inflamed debate that followed, far-right groups railed against "sex jihadists" and "rapefugees".

Talking about odds now? That is kinda why I am curious if the german festival occured in previous years, what was the sexual assault # back then. So if lets just say 10 years ago, the complaint was 6 and all of a sudden its 28... that is quite the increase. And you also forget that there is always a larger # of sexual assaults/rape/groping not reported.

How much is "a lot"? Any increase (if there is data for it), is bad.

I think the point is that the groping was reported to be done by non-germanic males.

Also, it's one thing for some drunk dude to grope a woman in a crowd (not saying it's right, but in some cases it could even be an accident), but it's a totally different thing for several men to surround a woman in a threatening manner and then 'grope' her.

If the asylum application is accepted, persons granted asylum status and those granted refugee status receive a temporary residence permit and are given the same status as Germans within the social insurance system. They are entitled to social welfare, child benefits, child-raising benefits, integration allowances and language courses as well as other forms of integration assistance.

Open Borders allowed them to get to Germany to get asylum/refugee status. The Schengen Borders allow for almost free travel between EU members. Allowed them to travel through multiple countries to get to Germany and Sweden. If everyone protected their borders, then far far far less migrants would make it to germany/sweden to get free crap.

Just saying that because open borders proponents often say it is the libertarian/liberty thing to have.

Usually, people who get bent out of shape about any perceived crimes of immigrants tend to be Trump supporters and I know many Trump supporter on here want to deny they are Trump supporter but I think its fair to say that you are one. Also, I don't know your whole story but I would guess that if your family really lived on a fisherman's boat in Hong Kong then you and your family probably came in through the visa lottery system i.e. chance, luck and not merit. Some immigrant actually come in through a more free market system with the H-1B visa where you have a specialty profession that some industry in the US needs. Not doing this to slight you in any way or diminish the efforts of your family but you got lucky and that is it. Otherwise, your family would still be on that fisherman's boat in Hong Kong doing whatever it is that you do.

And yes, refugees too go through medical exam and that "law, govt and constitution exam" he is talking about is just a small booklet filled with easy to answer questions and answer about govt. I did not even read the damn thing and got a 100% on my test. The exam is very easy and forgettable that I don't know why anyone would even think passing it is any achievement.

Can't agree more with this. You get a visa lottery and all you need to become a citizen is not commit a felony in 5 yrs and pay the post office some money. Also pass the easy a** exam. The standard should be increase to exclude every Tom, Dick and Harry that got their body into this country.

Lastly, this is why teaching statistics in high school is so important. Now even if the rapes go up two years in a row, it doesn't mean it was due to the immigrants, you have to watch the trend, actually investigate the variables at play to make any determinations and finally look at a long term trend. Imagine if the numbers went from 6 to 4 after they allowed all the immigrants in and someone claimed increase immigration led to the reduction rapes at German music festival? You would laugh at such a claim.

People are released from police custody all the time. Speeding and got pulled over? You can be given a warning and released. A bunch of migrants got beaten up by Russians for groping Russian women? Police released everyone.

My family story? I would gladly deport all chinese illegals/migrants or any other people who are not supposed to be here. As juleswin said, its all about luck getting into the country through a lottery system. If you are unlucky, too bad. Not everyone in the world can be lucky or be successful.
