How 'bout that oriental doughnut lady who can't resist your many obvious charms?

Wait, you want to get back together with your wife.

Wait, you're willing to entertain slim, smart women who'd be damned lucky to get a piece of you.

But think of the children! Should you take them to a mall to perform? I don't know!

P.S. Want some more tequila?

A couple things that you may want to be careful of is:

a) we really don't have any oil shortage (that's media scare
tactics and government control being implemented)
b) statistically speaking, raising gas prices hardly affects
travel plans at all
c) a free(er) market would evolve us beyond gas only transportation
d) looks like you are bitter about 'riding the bus' thus are justifying
it by clinging onto the same sound bits that many jealous Europeans
spout. (No offense, I've simply heard the "Americans deserve high
gas prices" and "You all need to pay the same price as us" lines
many times.)
e) the whole vehicle/gas/transportation/regulation/innovation/evolution
picture is ALL politics and manipulated by all the players. There is
much education that WE THE PEOPLE need to see to know the
whole story.

a) We have a shortage because we're not putting straws into our offshore reserves and burning shale oil. It makes sense--we're trying to drain everyone else's oil so that eventually we're the only ones left with oil. If it gets to the point where we both have all the oil and the biggest guns (how it is now) we will be the ultimate power in the universe. That's strategic.

b) have you been on the LA freeways during rush hour? a lot less people driving nowadays, my friend. Now if you're talking about family trips and stuff--yeah, that's probably true. But higher prices ARE affecting everyday, casual driving

c) that entirely depends. If the free(er) market approach leads us back to the 90s, where gas was really cheap, we'll never have electric cars or anything of that nature. Why? Simple economics. The only way people will have an incentive to develop substitutes for Good A is if Good A ceases to be economically viable. If New policies would make gasoline-fueled cars economically viable, then no one will take the time to further develop the batteries needed for an electric car.
The last time we had a major shift against Oil was the 70s--thats when we SHOULD have developed alternatives. Jimmy Carter was very smart in the sense that he had the balls to tell people what they needed to do--conserve energy, save money, invest in renewables, etc etc--but he was also very, very dumb for trying to force it with the Department of Energy, thermostat controls, etc etc. That said, we should have evolved past petrol-based gas in the 70s. That we're still running on it now is pathetic, and IMO, its the result of market manipulations and Oil interventionism abroad.

d) I have a car, I just try to cut down on driving it. Sometimes I wake up late, miss the bus and have no choice but to drive. But honestly, I LIKE riding the bus better. It saves me time in the sense that while I'm on the bus I can get a lot of stuff done. While im in the car, I have to focus on driving. Overall public transit is not a bad experience, i dont see why so many people are against it.

e) do you mean to say that innovation is not happening/is not possible? That is beyond silly. Gas operated vehicles should be a thing of the past. I'm sick of seeing the orange haze over Los Angeles everyday.

Also: as far as electricity and heating goes, I don't think that has anything to do with oil. The US has sooo much coal its ridiculous. Just set up some coal plants, get started on building some new nuclear plants, and we should be good. nanosolar is also a big player in the sense that they've finally constructed a solar panel that can compete with most traditional power plants for energy production. All we need is someone with the balls to do it or allow it to be done (again, rare in this day and age)
