20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death toady

:) Had it not been for the glam metal and punk of the late 70s and 80s, there would've been no PANTERA.

I gotta disagree. True, they started as glam posers. Then they rode the coattails of better thrash metal bands.

No offense. I just feel like stirring the pot today :)

The 90s was the best era in rock history? Da fuq?

What the hell? The 90s was total garbage, almost as bad as the cock rock of the 80s. Korn? Limp Bizkit? These bands took the worst elements of Nirvana, and made entire albums out of pure angst. Puke. Not that rock has ever been all that special, but seriously. Puke.

Anyway, Nirvana was awful, one of the worst bands in the history of pop music. Almost as bad as boy band era Beatles.

That would be news to Dime if he were here. He said the opposite in an interview with Guitar World magazine. In fact, they followed the guys around on a KISS/Pantera tour in the 90s, and Dime was constantly gushing over "Ace Fuckin' Freehly!" and how important KISS was to him. :D

so, musically, what floats your boat?

I think the 2000's were worse, but the 90s were certainly worse than any prior decade evarrrr.

12th anniversary of Layne Staley's death as well. Alice In Chains seemed to always be in Nirvana's shadow, but AIC is my personal favorite.

Here is a Smashing Pumpkins concert a few hours after everyone found out:

They were friends of the band, and Billy Corgan ended up hooking up with Courtney for a while.

This was before Dave Grohl was in the band: Recorded in Krist's mom's basement, December 1988 (not 1-1-87).

Awesome vids. I lived in the Seattle area around the time Kurt passed on. This was the kind of music you heard in bars vs the radio. It brought back memories. Many thanks, can't rep you enough.

Although we disliked a lot of the popular bands after awhile. In Seattle every other song on the rock stations was Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam or Nirvana.

I want to punch you. Sorry, can't help it. Korn's first 2 albums were magnificent. Both in the 90s. What they did after that was shit though.

Megadeth's best album was Countdown to Extinction and that was in the 90s.

Were you ever a fan of Panterra? Yeah, 90s.

White Zombie? Again, 90s.

Guns N' Roses - Use your Illusion II

Civil War
Yesterdays
You Could be Mine
Don't Cry

A great cover of Knockin' on Heaven's Door

The 90s.

The 90's had a fantastic run of excellent bands. The Seattle scene suffered many casualties, and its sad losing all that talent. Layne and Kurt are just a few.

One thing I've observed though, the internet and guitar hero have really cultured a lot of younger folks. Many of these songs I enjoyed in the 90's, even the obscure ones, are alive and well today.

I never much cared for the term "grunge"...

Cool thread. I like 90's music above all, although I also like some 80's and earlier. During the 90's, even the One Hit Wonders were awesome.

In any case, I think we can all agree that today's music sucks the big one. Everything is pop/club music.

2 days ago Nirvana was inducted in the Hall of Fame:

Almost don't even want to post these, but they do have the surviving members together:

They should have gotten Shaun Morgan to do it:
