It is one of the reasons I don't loose much sleep over folks thinking I am a conspiracy theorist. I remember when it was solely spoken of on coast to coast show and found on alien abduction websites. The other day a local radio show caller started speaking about them in reference to the economic crisis we are going through. I am sure I was white as she proceeded to detail the nefariousness of this organization, on at 5 pm in the evening on a mainstream talkshow....

The best way to handle the situation is to openly admit to its existence but obscure its usage and discredit anyone who questions their motives as flakes so that you can conduct business as usual without fear of repercussions. Same way they handled the trans-Texas corridor. Don't know if there are any Youtubes of it, but Dr.Paul was heartily maligned for being a conspiracy theorist because of this issue when the media questioned him during the primaries, even though there was a website defing the matter in full detail by the Texas DOT. I remember being so incensed by their behaviour as they mocked him, knowing how the majority of the public would join the media's view because of how they portrayed it and few people really do their own research.

The name "Bilderberg" came from the group's first meeting place, the Hotel de Bilderberg of Oosterbeek, Holland, in May 1954. So if you feel the name is spooky it is a personnel response.

This isn't the best way to conduct business. If they were truly some super-secret nefarious organization with plans for world domination, they'd just make the existing venue into an above-board conference and move the "behind the scenes" stuff to another venue at another time. Or use some of the amazing technology available to the world today. You can't draw the conclusion from your clearly speculative conjecture.

Ron Paul was "maligned" [read: criticized] because he took the fact of the trans-Texas corridor and theorized from it a "North American Union" that compromised national sovereignty. The Trans-Texas was a matter of record (and it was voted down), but there is nothing to suggest a concerted effort from policymakers toward an NAU, hence the criticism.

Answer: He wasn't.

Let's face it. Ron Paul got more media coverage than any candidate polling the way he polled in the history of presidential politics. Yeah, he didn't get the coverage that the "top tier" candidates did, and that is itself an injustice, but to say that he was specifically maligned is pure falsehood, as he outperformed, in media hits, any other "second tier" candidate in either party - even candidates polling higher than him (such as Richardson).
