I dont think we should have fences up, just more border guards. The best way to deal with it is through the entitlement systems and the economics side of it. But, like rp says, if we would have never gotten away from the free market economy/gold standard/balanced budgets, we would have a stronger economy and the immigrant workers would be needed.
This country became great from immigrants who wanted to work hard and do well for their family. The problem is, in America if you work hard, you still might not become successful. It is no longer the land of oppurtunity, it is the land of entitlements.
